I am currently completing a thesis at McGill on the relationship between trauma and gender dysphoria and euphoria.
I am queer, neurodivergent and a parent. I have 14 years of clinical experience in psychiatric, addictions, relational and childhood trauma and community work. My first language is English. I work to help people integrate their thoughts, emotions, somatic experiences and stories of empowerment so they can make sense of the world during these difficult times. I have worked with issues such as Depression, Stress Management, CPTSD, Anxiety, ADHD, Autism, Gender Dysphoria, Eating Disorders, Addictions, BPD and PTSD. I believe people are more than their diagnosis. Psychiatry must be deconstructed for us to find our true potential.

Are you struggling in your relationship? Do you feel alone or disconnected? Or maybe you and your partner get stuck in painful cycles of blame and defensiveness. As a licensed Couple and Family Therapist and Psychotherapist, I am passionate about helping couples reconnect and deepen their intimacy. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which helps couples put a stop to their repetitive cycles of conflict and distancing, and create a deeper, more satisfying emotional bond. An empirically validated approach, EFT has the highest success rate of any couple therapy approach.

I work with a range of issues, including relationship conflict, distancing and withdrawal, infidelity, childhood trauma (C-PTSD), infertility, discrepancies in sexual desire, women's health issues and managing chronic illness.
Have you and your partner lost your connection? Do you get stuck in repetitive cycles of blame and defensiveness? Do you wonder whether you truly matter to your partner? With a PhD in relationship therapy and over 15 years' experience with couples and families, I look to the science of relationship to help. I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an approach that seeks to strengthen the emotional bonds between partners by identifying, then changing, the destructive patterns of interaction that distance and divide. EFT is an evidence-based treatment with the highest success rate of any couple therapy approach.

I believe that psychotherapy in essence is a collaborative process that aims to increase psychological well-being and reduce emotional pain, loneliness and languishing which are ever present in today's world. At the heart of this process, is the positive healing relationship that develops between an individual, a couple or a family, and the therapist. I offer clients a non-judgemental, empathic and queer affirmative space where they learn to identify and tolerate their emotions, articulate appropriately their needs to significant people in their life and work on breaking away from toxic negative cycles.

People often seek therapy when they would like to work on issues such as stress management, personal loss or life cycle changes. In individual therapy, I support clients by providing specific strategies for changing unwanted behaviours or thoughts. A couple in distress may feel there is no way out of their troubled relationship. By observing the interactions between the partners I help couples change dysfunctional behaviours, strengthen friendship, increase intimacy, resolve problematic patterns of communication, improve emotional attachment, build resilience and enjoyment that each partner derives from the relationship.

Change starts with the relationship that we form in the therapy and then continues by building useful skills in and outside of our sessions. In practice this means that I fit best with clients who are interested in (1) understanding more about their thoughts and emotions while also (2) taking clear steps to improve their mental and physical well-being. My job as the therapist is to provide a warm and caring environment to support the client in this process.

Therapy can help people better understand themselves and find greater meaning in their lives. People enter therapy for a wide range of reasons, often involving difficulty solving a problem in their lives on their own. Some people, for example, are having difficulty in a romantic relationship and wonder how to improve the relationship, or end it. Other people experience conflict or anxiety in a wide range of interpersonal relationships and enter therapy as a means of improving their communication skills and the quality of their relationships. I help people in both monogamous and polyamorous relationships.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
