Are you a gay man who is overwhelmed by the intensity of your feelings? Do certain situations feel triggering or remind you of a past trauma? It can feel unbearable when you’re just trying to keep it together, and hoping nobody notices when you start breathing rapidly, sweating, or shaking. Even between intense moments, there can be a low-level anxiety that feels like it’s always lurking, ready to take over at any time. Not to mention the shame about not feeling in control of your responses. The good news is that there are specific skills that can be learned to listen to your emotions and think about your past in a whole new way.

I use the following approaches mostly; CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
I work with clients who are motivated to explore their life's challenges and together, we build a strong alliance in order to try different approaches and strategies in our sessions. I believe in finding what skills and approaches work for the individual, and using a combination of mind-body approaches as it is all connected and we can learn and understand so much about ourselves through our bodies and the messages they give us.

Using evidence-based approaches and training in trauma therapy and EMDR from the Trauma Institute & Child Trauma Institute, I strive to provide a safe space for clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
Some people say life is too short, and for others, it feels excessively long. Over time, we collect a series of traumas and difficulties, and these experiences can shape our inner narrative and impact our mental health. Your life journey is unique and you know your story best, which is why collaboration is an essential part of my practice. Together, we'll establish realistic goals that will improve your wellbeing and that will foster healing. Specializing in adult and adolescent therapy, I offer client-centred and trauma-informed support for a variety of challenges, with a focus on anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.

I offer EMDR, an evidence-based trauma therapy that's fast and requires no homework.
Throughout our sessions, I strive to create an environment of compassion, acceptance, and present moment awareness. I don't see myself as fundamentally different from the client, but rather as someone who can bring a fresh perspective to their situation. I believe that the client and I are both climbing our own mountains, and I can use my vantage point to identify obstacles on their mountain that they may not be aware of. In therapy, every struggle is important, and no one's pain is greater or less than another's. Together, we can then find new ways to navigate these obstacles and chart a new course towards a more fulfilling life.

I have basic training in EMDR and the Flash Technique, two evidence-based interventions.
Navigating life can be challenging, considering suffering and uncertainty are central to the human experience. In efforts to feel happier, we tend to deny our pain, hoping it will eventually go away. It may be efficient for a while, but ultimately this prevents us from showing up authentically in our relationships and experiencing the very thing we want most: inner peace, confidence, connection and belonging. The good news is these challenges make us human, they are not uncommon, and you have what it takes to create the life you crave. It simply requires following your intuition and getting the support you need.

I cover a broad range of mental health concerns and am certified in therapeutic approaches for treating trauma, such as Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and The Rewind Technique.
Whether you are struggling with a long-standing issue or are in acute distress, you will find me to be an empathetic counsellor who will take the time to learn about your particular story in order to best support you. No two people or two situations are alike and therapy must similarly be tailored to the individual's needs. I will do this by first meeting you where you are and working at your pace to move in the direction you see for yourself. In the process, you will develop alternate perspectives and learn techniques to challenge self-defeating thoughts or behaviours that hold you back from living authentically.

Completed training (level 1 and 2) in EMDR.
I am a licensed couple and family therapist and psychotherapist. In 2019, I was the recipient of the clinical excellence award for couple and family therapy from McGill University. I received a Master's in psychology in 2009. My area of focus is on helping people understand their relationship patterns and helping them build more meaningful and stable connections with others. I understand that right now you may feel that as though you have too much on your plate and that you are struggling to balance all of life's demands. Many people do not take the time to focus on themselves and invest in their emotional well- being.

I utilize a person-centered, trauma-informed approach, combining therapeutic modalities like EMDR, CBT, DBT, and IFS.
Life can be exceptionally excruciating. Over time, we collect many wounds and traumas. I work with clients who have mood disorders, anxiety disorders, grief, and other trauma-related issues. Whether you're dealing with new losses (let's not forget old losses that still feel fresh), life transitions, or you don't know how to take a step forward, we can do this together. My speciality is in mental health, PTSD, and BPD. I also have advanced training in EMDR and complex trauma.

I use Hypnotherapy to help my clients achieve inner mental peace and resilience, as well as help women overcome personal challenges such as weight loss, body image issues, situational or performance anxiety, low self confidence and low self esteem. Sometimes this is related past trauma that is still affecting you today, and in those cases EMDR or Regression Hypnosis can help you get unblocked and move on with your life. We can then work together to help you build stronger self esteem and a greater sense of self worth while achieving your lifestyle goals and taking into consideration your spiritual nature as well.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
