I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a focus on supporting individuals living with anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, and substance use concerns. After becoming a mother myself, my passion shifted towards perinatal (mental health from pregnancy to postpartum) concerns. I am currently registered as a Perinatal Mental Health therapist with Postpartum Support International. I work with mothers/parents to understand the changes that becoming a parent brings, challenge societal beliefs and expectations, and explore their new identity as a parent.

Let me be a part of your perinatal journey through trying to conceive to parenting for kids, being a parent is the most important and most difficult job that exists.
Navigating the perinatal period can be both exciting and challenging. During this time, it's common to experience a wide range of emotions and adjustments. From the anticipation of a new arrival to the physical and emotional changes, the perinatal period is a unique and transformative journey. As you prepare to welcome your child, it's important to prioritize your mental well-being. Understanding the psychological aspects of this phase can help in coping with the changes and seeking support when needed. I believe in building a lasting connection with a therapist to support you through this life-changing process.

The path to parenthood has not looked like what you expected. Maybe you’re desperate to start your family, but it’s not happening and you’re terrified that parenthood isn’t going to happen for you. Maybe you’ve experienced the devastation of pregnancy loss and are left grieving in isolation, wondering “does this grief even count if it was “just” a miscarriage?”. Or perhaps you want to add to your family, but this time around it just doesn’t seem to be happening. Baby showers are devastating. “ Pregnancy” becomes a swear word. Sex is no longer fun, it is simply a method to conceive/means to finally seeing that double pink line…

Motherhood can be complex and challenging - this is especially true during the postpartum period. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, irritable, exhausted, anxious, or depressed, you are not alone. Many new mothers (and parents) experience mental health challenges during this time (current research shows 1 in every 7 women in Canada). Having a baby is a life-changing experience that results in significant hormonal, emotional, physical, and social changes. Prioritizing your wellness and reaching out for support can be an important step towards reclaiming balance in your life and overcoming symptoms.

I also specialize in working with women and their families during pregnancy and postpartum.
Hello and welcome! Being a parent can be frustrating, lonely, draining and confusing. At the same time, being a child/teen is also so confusing, stressful and overwhelming much of the time. While these relationships can be a source of pain, our connection to each other is also essential to our well-being. I work with children, teens and parents to help understand, work through and heal from pain and rebuild joy through connection. I will spend a lot of time really getting to know you and your family’s story. I aim to be compassionate and non-judgmental, understanding we all have a good reason for why we do the things we do.

I am certified in perinatal mental health ( Postpartum Support International), Birth and Reproductive Trauma, Perinatal Grief and Loss and Relational Cultural Therapy (Canadian perinatal mental health trainings).
An estimated 1 in 5 moms and 1 in 10 dads experience postpartum depression, making it the number 1 obstetrical complication. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders do not discriminate. They can happen to anyone! They often go undetected and, sadly, untreated. It doesn't have to be this way. There is no shame in seeking treatment. As a neonatal nurse with experience in NICU, obstetrics and pediatrics and through the lens of personal experience, I am very familiar with the significant gaps in perinatal mental health services in Ontario. I am passionate about perinatal wellness and look forward to supporting you on your journey!

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
