I've been working in programs helping immigrant women integrate into the community for 14 years, providing Multicultural Counselling at the Halton Women's Centre since 2009.
I'm passionate about working with people who are willing to create movement and change in their lives; change that will promote a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle. I believe that we are all able to improve our relationships - both with ourselves and with others. By successfully working towards reaching our goals and by trusting ourselves, we learn to listen to our inner guidance. Whether you are facing anxiety, stress, challenging relationships, sexuality issues, trauma, grief & loss, addiction, anger, shame, a difficult life transition or crisis, depression, or simply want guidance to improve an area of your life.

As part of this multicultural society, I see a common ground of suffering and I have a deep sense of empathy and compassion.
Our responses to internal and external factors of life determine our mental state. When these reactions are negative, we develop mental struggles, especially if we think they are the absolute truth. I am happy to accompany you in this journey to help you overcome your mental issues. All you need to do is believing in change and in the benefit of psychotherapy. It is crucial to have a faith in yourself and to have a non-biased stance towards your mental state and psychotherapy. For more info about me and my practice: www.ahealingsoul.ca

I have worked with multicultural individuals addressing grief, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal issues.
Hey there, how are you? If you find it challenging to answer that question, that’s okay. Life is complicated! There are so many ups and downs. It can be hard keeping it all together. Balancing your emotional wellbeing with your mental, spiritual, and physical takes a lot of effort. I get that, and I am passionate about helping you navigate your journey, rediscover yourself, and see new possibilities for your life.

We all go through challenges in our lives, but it is not talking about it that makes it so much harder. Life is like a wave; we cannot change how it breaks but how we ride it. I use a client-centred, multicultural discipline and collaborative approach (EMDR, CBT) to help individuals and couples grow and heal. I sincerely believe in the uniqueness, courage, and ability to change and grow in each individual. I believe in empowering you with the tools to find relief, clarity, and emotional growth. I believe in helping couples recognize, manage and reconcile issues that cause stress and/or disconnection in their relationship.

In addition to working with ADHD, anxiety/stress and depression, I have a keen interest in supporting clients who are dealing with "Imposter Syndrome", multicultural issues, LGBTQIA+, transgenerational/racial trauma and youth/teen issues.
ADHD, Stress/Anxiety, Self-Esteem, LGBTQIA+. You have a hard time "turning off" your racing mind and are feeling stressed. It might be hard for you to focus and you find yourself struggling to get things done. Perhaps you are struggling with procrastination, low motivation, or feeling in a "funk" because life is just too much sometimes. When you are stressed and overwhelmed, it can be hard to feel good about yourself and make the changes you'd like to see. If you are ready to work on yourself and start feeling better, you have come to the right place! You deserve to start feeling like YOU again.

I value multicultural counseling and believe in the unique differences that we all have due to our culture and upbringing.
Therapy is about new beginnings, where you can be yourself and embrace your thoughts, beliefs and values. During this experience, everyone gets valuable time to heal, grow and gain. My approach to helping my clients is person-centred. I focus on individual needs, and we curate a specific dynamic plan together to build what we are aiming to achieve throughout this journey. Every concern and thought matters, so we will focus on what you need and aim to achieve from therapy.

My lived experienced in a biracial and multicultural family has taught me never to judge or assume.

Whatever your background, worldview, identity or orientation, I am here to walk with you through this beautiful, messy world that brings both joy and sorrow.

In Canada, my practice also involves the complexity of multicultural environment, and immigrant and refugee mental health.
Sometimes, we may find ourselves facing life experiences which bring us suffering and we have not enough answers. We might feel strange, anxious, sad, worried with symptoms of emotional pain. On these moments, a therapist assistance would provide a safe, healthy environment to work on those issues. The therapy environment aims at allowing you the possibility to access to the root of difficulties rather than looking at exterior manifestations During our sessions, I will not judge either your past or present choices. My private practice includes services in Spanish (my mother tongue) providing brief and long-term treatment.

Multicultural Counsellors

What type of therapy is multicultural therapy?

Multicultural therapy is not tied to any specific therapy; rather, it is an overarching approach to therapy that aims to acknowledge and address the influence that factors like race, gender identity, and cultural background can have on someone’s life. Multicultural approaches can be applied to CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and others, and can be practiced with individuals, couples, families, or groups.

What can I expect from multicultural therapy?

Multicultural counselling should be tailored to the client’s unique identity and cultural needs. Such approaches often prioritise the building of trust so that the client feels comfortable exploring various aspects of their identity and any challenges caused by mismatches between their identity and the dominant culture. Beyond that, the format and timeline of therapy will be heavily influenced by the therapist’s preferred therapy approach and the specific problems for which the client sought therapy.

Can multicultural therapy help treat trauma?

Yes. Cultural factors such as racial background, gender identity and or sexuality, and immigration or refugee status can influence both whether someone experiences trauma and how they cope afterward. Multicultural approaches to trauma-informed care will be aware of these influences, helping the client recognise how their response to trauma may be shaped by their cultural background and identify coping mechanisms that take their identity into account.

What are the benefits of seeing a multicultural therapist?

Members of minority groups who seek therapy are sometimes frustrated by providers who don’t understand their cultural background or dismiss the ways in which race, gender, or other facets of their identity influence their lived experience. Seeing a multicultural therapist can help these clients feel seen, understood, and able to develop solutions to life challenges that take their upbringing, beliefs, and past experiences into account.
