An intriguing fact: We are wired for emotional connection. Yet, do you find that you and your partner or family member always get into misunderstandings and conflict? Are you hurting from the wounds of betrayal, abandonment, abuse, leaving you feeling angry, lonely, and struggling to trust others? There is hope! I understand how individuals, families and couples fall into patterns that are hurtful, and feel stuck. I help clients gain an understanding of their patterns of communication; help them heal relational wounds; give them tools to shift into a more skilful, calm, satisfying feeling within themselves and their relationships.

Journeying towards wellness takes more work than most of us imagine! Without support it can feel slow and discouraging! If you are on this journey, then you may want someone to walk alongside to help you move forward. Once you have this support, then it's time to start preparing for the journey! This could include remembering what's important to you, and working through the challenges that make the path forward difficult. You might even need to equip yourself with new skills and discover new paths towards a goal.

My philosophy is Existential, meaning that we are free and therefore responsible for our choices, We are the authors of our lives, and we design the pathways we follow. My basic premise is that we are not victims of circumstance because, to a large extent, we are what we choose to be. Life is a cycle of transitions and experiences, presenting opportunities and challenges. Often the most important life lessons comes from our suffering. My aim is to assist people to develop their meaning and purpose, by encouraging them to explore options, in order to achieve a more meaningful existence.

For more information on how I do individual, couple, or family therapy, feel free to view my website.
I believe that there is good in every person, and hope in every situation. I have helped hundreds of individuals, couples, and families heal, grow, and connect. As a relational therapist, I appreciate the impact that our relationships have on our well-being. I do not see clients as having something wrong with their minds that necessarily needs to be fixed. Rather, I see my clients as unique individuals, each with their own stories and perspectives, embedded in important relationships and contexts that impact them. I see strengths and I see hope, even when it feels like there is none.

Beyond my credentials, I've learned keenly from each of my clients over the years, and my practice is informed by rich life experience. I work collaboratively, guiding you in revealing underlying causes and patterns that may be posing challenges in your life, in identifying and clarifying your own goals, and supporting you in carrying out strategies best suited for you to reach them. Each counselling need is unique. Always listening and with empathy, I can challenge you without threatening, and meet you where you're really at - which may not necessarily be where you assume you are.

Since 2009 I have had extensive training working in the mental health system with adults and families who have experienced trauma, anxiety/depression, addiction/substance issues, family/relationship issues, and other stressors in life.
Have you ever felt stuck? Do you ever think therapy is just not for me or think to yourself, is it worth it? Well, believe me, it is. One of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. My belief is that healing is a collaborative endeavor that requires honest caring without judgement.

When I don’t have my therapist cap on, I love to go out on walks in nature and spend time with family.
We can sometimes feel alone in our struggles. We may be asking if we are the problem in these situations as our needs are consistently not being met in our life circumstances. In session with me, I take on a holistic approach to your life. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to openly discuss what you are going through and the goals/dreams that you wish to move closer to attaining. I often consider myself like a coach on a team. I will always be in your corner cheering you on, but that doesn't mean that I am not going to help push you towards the goals that you set for yourself.

With couples, I provide a safe space where both partners can share their thoughts, feelings and concerns strengthening their connection to one another. Additionally, I help my clients, their partners, and family learn how to cope with the challenges of addiction (and other traumas), while providing them with the support they need as they progress through recovery toward mental health, general self-efficacy and wholeness.
I offer Individual psychotherapy that is an inner journey of self-exploration focused on you, so you can find clarity of purpose in your life. During sessions my hope is that we can work collaboratively to discuss what works best for you and your family to alleviate stress and build connection.
My focus is on establishing a safe and nurturing environment where children, youth and families can freely express themselves, explore emotions, and develop the necessary skills to continue to navigate life’s complexities. Recognizing the crucial role families play in the well-being of children and youth, my work extends beyond the individual to encompass close collaboration with their families and support networks. By fostering strong partnerships and equipping parents and caregivers with the knowledge and tools they need, we can build an environment that encourages growth and resilience.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
