Combining mind and body based therapies with attachment theory, IFS, EMDR and somatic techniques, I use an integrative approach to reach beyond our adult, logical self to the deepest layers of our being - the ones that hold the key to true transformation.
What's your "normal"? Has "just getting by" become a way of life? As we struggle with the stresses of past and present, living takes a back seat to surviving. We all have a survivor within us - a part that carries us through the bad times and holds us together when we feel like falling apart. It's a brilliant survival strategy. And an unhappy way to live. But what if it doesn’t have to be that way? What if there’s more to life than just surviving? What if there’s hope? From getting back to normal, to redefining the boundaries of normal - there is a better way. A way to stop surviving and start thriving.

I have training in evidence-based practices such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy.
The hardest step but the most impactful is reaching out for support. Take a moment to be proud of yourself for prioritizing your health and wellness. As a social worker with over ten years working within the field of mental health, it's hard to ignore the one commonality- Trauma. Whether this is uncovered yet or not, everyone has a story, and sometimes those unprocessed memories or emotions have a way of getting stuck which can shape the way we currently cope. My areas of expertise are mental health, self-worth, grief/loss, compassion fatigue and overall trauma.

I analyze your short essay/childhood memories/dreams you bring in - to figure you out FAST: personality style, intra-psychic function, core issues, growth edge, strengths, challenges. First, extensive feedback, a 360 that also considers nutrition, lifestyle, cognitive style, etc, then EMDR, NLP to architect change. I specialize in some (not all) problems that have been unresponsive to conventional psychotherapy (i.e. OCD). I use Jungian & Eastern wisdom, Ken Wilber, Ericksonian, Internal Family Systems to engineer change on an unconscious level. I tend to be selective to ensure best chance of success. (no substance abuse, BPD, etc)

Cindy received extensive training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Focusing Oriented Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, and EMDR.
Life is filled with many challenges. We all use coping mechanisms that appear to make sense for these challenges. Sometimes these coping mechanisms stop working or cause us other difficulties when they are used for longer periods of time. I provide a safe and comfortable environment in which we can work together to develop skills and strategies that lead to change that can be maintained over the long-term. I am trained to offer Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and have facilitated many treatment groups using these techniques. Mindfulness groups currently on hold.

Now offering EMDR- My practice is a warm, safe space where you can express challenging feelings openly, without fear of being judged. If you choose to work with me, I will hold space for you to focus, identify, and sit with potentially uncomfortable emotions and thoughts. I believe that emotions hold meaning and serve a purpose for us. The more we become aware of where our feelings, beliefs, and reactions come from, the better equipped we are to choose how we will respond in the future - rather than just reacting. We can work together to build this emotional awareness.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
