Although I do tailor my therapeutic approach differently for each unique client, I tend to gravitate towards cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy ( DBT), emotion focused therapy (EFT), solution focused, and attachment theory-based interventions.
My goal is to support and guide you back to wellness no matter the trials and tribulations that life presents. I have a keen interest in supporting anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and trauma. Above all, I take pride in building genuine therapeutic relationships with my clients while helping them become the best versions of themselves. Having started my own therapeutic journey as a client myself, I can more deeply appreciate the importance of this client-therapist relationship. The therapeutic journey is not always easy, but I believe that we are stronger together.

Strengths based; Trauma-informed; Narrative; Mindfulness; CBT; DBT informed techniques; IFS & IFIO; Gottman techniques.
Registered social worker accepting referrals for in person services (individual, or couples). I do a lot of work around trauma processing, relationships, and shifting how we respond to our feelings so they don't hold so much power over us. I do my best to make this as comfortable, or at least productively uncomfortable, as I can. I use evidence based, trauma-informed, tools that are tailored to the needs of your moment specifically, to meet you where you’re at and to begin empowering you in your moving forward (or in figuring out what that could look like).

I use elements of CBT, SNAP, Unified Protocol and DBT.
Children and youth live in a different world today than most parents grew up in. It can be difficult for parents to understand why their children are expressing anxiety, sadness or stress in their lives. I can help children and youth navigate through their emotions, worries and self-defeating thoughts in a fun and engaging style. I coach children and youth through emotional regulation techniques that they can use in all situations to help manage challenging or stressful situations. I use a relational, client centered model to help children and youth understand themselves better in order to feel more secure and regulated in life.

I incorporate Psychodynamic and Emotion-Focused approaches into my practice, as well as elements of IFS, CBT and DBT.
My practice is guided by the belief that by exploring our unmet wants and needs, we can discover how to meet those needs in the present. My work emphasizes that everyone’s experience in therapy is unique. In session we might cry, laugh, or even swear at times. What we do in therapy looks different for everyone, and I am committed to providing a space where you can feel comfortable genuinely expressing yourself.

Through the use of Dialectical Behaviour , Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Attachment therapy, Person Centered, and other modalities, while working from a trauma informed lens, I step into our 50 or 90 minute session, committed to your journey, and unlocking the power of self actualization, healthy internalized processing/life navigation in you.
As an adult, we expect to have everything under control, and we set these expectations that are supposed to set us a part from our parents. In reality, are you feeling as if the rug has been pulled from under you? Have you been feeling as though the relationship that you want or wanted between yourself and your partner, is not even close to what you envisioned? Have you been going to work, and going through the motions of life, except you truly feel to lay still in bed? Is there a loss that has you in a frozen place, & screaming HELP! Have you overcome a life challenge, & now you are ready for therapy to be part of your self care?

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Counsellors

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
