I implement techniques borrowed from EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Mindfulness-based Interventions.
One of the many things I can appreciate about our society is how people come from different walks of life - we all have a story. These stories, or worldviews, are what shape our personalities and how we perceive and overcome the various obstacles that life may throw at us. I also understand how beginning therapy can be daunting, so I provide a validating and non-judgemental environment with the goal of making clients as comfortable as possible. Helping clients explore their emotions and navigate any problems they may have, together, has always been a passion of mine.

I use a combination of mind and body-based therapies including EMDR, CBT, DBT and Narrative Therapy.
Finding a safe space to explore, process and work through the ups and downs of your life can feel overwhelming. Every day I work with individuals feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns that negatively impact goals and relationships. I will guide you to navigating these thoughts and feelings, while supporting you in going beyond talk therapy, towards processing and setting achievable goals, gaining a deeper understanding of your personal values and developing new, more skillful behaviors for coping with challenges.

I am certified in EMDR and have been trained in multiple somatic therapy approaches.
As a social worker/psychotherapist, I have 14 years of extensive clinical practice supporting individuals who have endured past and present traumatic and hurtful life experiences. I guide individuals out of painful emotions, thoughts, somatic reactions, and behavioural patterns by creatively combining trauma-informed therapies that foster personal growth and transformation. Recovering from traumatic and adverse life experiences is not a linear process. I support individuals throughout all the stages, challenges, and transitional periods one encounters during healing.

We teach people how to treat us. If we don’t know how to love ourselves, to accept ourselves, to be compassionate with ourselves, how can we expect others to? If you struggle with issues such as people pleasing, guilt, shame, having high expectations of yourself but have low expectations of others then you have placed others’ needs over your own. If you have a hard time saying no because you worry that others will not like you or want to spend time with you, then working on boundaries assists you with experiencing clearer expectations of yourself and others. Work towards a healthier you.

I am an EMDR-trained psychotherapist who believes that a client's memories deserve respect.
If you are an individual adult looking to heal attachment wounds, process trauma, or cultivate strategies to manage anxiety, depression, grief, chronic pain, or chronic illness, I would love the opportunity to see if we would be a good therapeutic fit. Many people I speak with have been told they may be an ideal candidate for EMDR. Others may have sought traditional talk therapy (CBT or DBT) for their developmental trauma in the past but are now curious about a different evidence-based treatment that combines both a top-down (cognitive) and a bottom-up (somatic) approach.

I utilize evidence-based modalities, including EMDR, IFS, CBT, DBT and Somatic approaches.
You might be feeling hurt, angry, and uncertain after being betrayed by someone close to you. Are you struggling with sexual concerns that are affecting your relationships, causing you to feel disconnected from your partner, and alone? When we are faced with feelings of distrust, resentment, guilt, or shame, the hope for change can seem far away. Therapy can provide a safe place for you to identify these feelings, identify the root causes, and feel empowered.

EMDR Counsellors

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
