An acceptance and mindfulness-based approach can help you get better at noticing difficult thoughts and feelings, so they don’t have get in the way of you reaching your goals.
Are you an adult struggling with anxiety, depression, or ADHD? Are your perfectionist and people-pleasing tendencies overwhelming and exhausting you? Do you have trouble reaching your goals because of worries, self-criticism, low mood, or lack of confidence? If any of these sound like you, and if nothing you've tried has led to lasting change, you might benefit from a new approach to working with your thoughts and feelings. Instead of being consumed by worries and difficult feelings, you can start to develop a more flexible mind so that you can find balance in your life and feel more like yourself.

I strive to provide an empathic, nurturing and expansive relationship that brings compassion and mindfulness to your experiences.
Symptoms of anxiety, depression, loss, grief, big life changes, burn-out and mood disorders can be relieved greatly through emotional exploration, mindfulness techniques, and self-compassion. My approach is based on the belief that a deeper understanding of ‘self’ ultimately instills a stronger sense of peace and health in our day to day lives. Honing our natural ability to self-regulate and heal often begins with naming our struggles and traumas in the presence of a supportive other. From here we gain greater clarity on how to take care of ourselves, create boundaries and self-care patterns that instigate lasting change.

We'll use research-supported acceptance, mindfulness, self-compassion, and performance-psychology techniques to help bring your BEST self to the spotlight.
Are you often in situations that feel like the spotlight is on you: your body gets heavy, your mind goes blank, and a sense of panic takes complete control? Having to perform can lead to feelings of anxiety or self-doubt. Whether you’re an athlete, performing on stage or in front of the camera, in the boardroom, or in front of your classmates/peers – these moments can feel like all eyes are on you, and that can be terrifying. A traumatic performance experience can replay in your mind, and can even impact the rest of your life. With support, you can begin to regain trust in yourself and move forward with renewed confidence.

I offer a combination of different therapies including CBT, mindfulness, IFS and DBR all through a strengths-based perspective.
We can create change together. Each individual is different, however, we all experience distress and suffering throughout life. I believe that change is possible and we can be taught to create it for ourselves in a helpful way. Stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, sexuality, relationships, and so many other factors, affect the way we function and how we feel day in and out. It can be overwhelming to manage at times, and seeking support makes a difference. Past pain can get in the way of changing today. I work with individuals on reprocessing the past and finding the strengths they have to build healthier and happier lives.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
