I have been providing therapy for many years and I consider it an honour to come along side others (individuals, couples and families) as they seek change and transformation. When you are faced with life's unexpected challenges, distress or overwhelming anxieties, seeking help and consulting with a therapist is a significant step.

I’m a fortunate man, really enjoying my life and my work. I am well, and I remember not being well; anxious, depressed, traumatized and clinically diagnosed with various psychiatric ailments. Life threw me some awful curves and I’ve experienced the therapy world as a client for many hundreds of hours in several of its forms. I have acted badly and I apologize to those I’ve hurt. I won’t indulge my humility here but I’ll be open if you ask. My practice is built in part on my personal experiences of suffering, change, and growth. I am a Registered Psychotherapist in the Province of Ontario.

Separation / divorce is not something you considered when you and your partner were planning your lives together. Unfortunately divorce is common and is an incredibly painful process which you can't typically prepare for. It can generate intense emotions such as anger, confusion, betrayal, loneliness, & hopelessness. Even if you know it's the right decision, you will likely be experiencing grief over what you had hoped your relationship would be. Co-parenting is another level to manage. This process can make you question who you are, and what your life will look like moving forward.

My integrative therapy approach embraces relational, arts-based, narrative, Internal Family Systems, and existential modalities - all of which can foster a deeper understanding of how you engage with yourself, others, and the world around you.
Stepping into therapy can be evocative. It invites us to delve into our inner world and befriend parts of ourselves who we discover - often the hurt, hidden, and hopeful. I join you for this journey as your guide and am committed to embodying collaboration, warmth, playfulness, curiosity, and compassion. In our space we will safely weave together your stories, explore meaningful insights, and experiment with new ways of being, feeling, and relating. My approach to care is rooted in anti-oppressive, intersectional, and trauma-informed frameworks. I also bring years of experience as a queer musician and music therapist into my work.

My approach integrates the empathetic and existential roots of humanistic therapy, relational work grounded in attachment, present-focused mindfulness tools, and life review work to more deeply explore where you find meaning.
Life can be tough. Seeking help at any point can help you to become the hero of your own story. I enjoy working with individuals who are negotiating changes, difficulties, or losses in their lives and trying to understand their experience. I believe it is up to each of us to make sense of our lives, and psychotherapy is often a valuable place to explore this in an open and non-judgmental way. It is often turning points or changing phases of life that call us to question things, confront us with important decisions, and challenge us to decide what is meaningful.

My goal is to help you find not the elusive “authentic” self, but a more grounded self, who can better navigate the struggles of life. My ideal client is someone that might be grappling with any combination of the complexities of queer and trans identity, transition-related concerns, societal pressures and discrimination, body image and eating disorders and addictions. As a trans person I am fascinated by people’s unique gender journeys; my desire is to create an affirmative environment to navigate and explore your own. I am also looking to work with those experiencing the co-occuring emotional impact of climate anxiety.

Existential Counsellors

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
