Are you a worrier, over-thinker and are you anxious? Do you believe your thoughts and ignore your emotions? Did you grow up in a chaotic, uncertain home? Much of the anxiety that comes from your mind is actually the alarmed and wounded younger version of you that still lives in your body. If this resonates with you, know that you are not alone. My ideal client will be ready to learn how to feel better in their bodies rather than hoping changing anxious thoughts will be the answer. You need to feel it, to heal it!

Are you seeking a supportive outlet to address childhood issues, navigate traumatic events, manage anger spells, and alleviate feelings of depression or anxiety? If so, I invite you to explore healthier alternatives than the temporary relief found in alcohol, shopping sprees, or excessive consumption of adult content. If you've found yourself preoccupied with non-medical drug use or starting your day with a sweet treat to trigger a rush of dopamine, it may be time to examine these patterns. Discover how to regain control over your thoughts and emotions, and explore the connection between your behaviours and past experiences.

There are many different reasons why you might be seeking out guidance from a therapist. Maybe you’re at a place where you want to develop yourself in a particular area. Maybe you have experienced significant trauma. Or maybe you are going through a difficult transition, whether it was planned or not, and need help navigating it. Whatever might be happening in your life right now, I want you to know that I will help you each step of the way. Nothing is too small or too big to talk about. "Together, we will work on understanding the issue at hand and then we will work together to strive for the change you want to see in your life."

When searching for a therapist several thoughts may be floating around your head. If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or depleted adding "find a therapist" to your mental load might just put you over capacity. When you are feeling sad, lonely or isolated, reaching out and asking for help may seem like a daunting task that is insurmountable. As a fellow human, I have been in the position you now sit... wanting and needing help and not knowing where to start. When life feels like it's just a lot, sitting with a therapist may be just what you need to decompress, gain insight and feel connected again.

Life has difficulties and challenges. Pain and suffering are an inevitable part of human existence. We can not run from it. We cannot hide from it. But we can learn to live with it, to rise above it, to transform it, and to find meaning in it. Wellness and human flourishing can exist in the presence of pain and suffering. Working from a meaning perspective, I believe that when people see their own unique value they are better equipped to overcome life’s challenges and start living life more fully.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
