I have attended perinatal mental health training and currently enrolled in a grief and bereavement perinatal certificate program.
Sometimes when we are caught in one of life's toughest moments, we seek support. That support can look like how to process a situation, validation, a listening ear, problem solving, and so forth. Therapy can be many things or it can be one. I offer a client - centred approach with empathy. If you are looking for someone you can relate to, I am a parent to young children, I have experienced PPA/D, loss, abandonment, unhealthy relationships, and more. If you are interested in working together but still not sure, we can have a 15-20 minute chat to help you with that decision.

Accepting new clients virtually. Are you a high-achiever who's feeling stuck dealing with big emotions? Perhaps you're finding yourself angrier than usual, yelling at loved ones, or disconnecting and numbing. Perhaps you're drowning your sorrows in alcohol, weed, over-eating, mindless scrolling, or maybe even overworking. Do you feel that no matter how hard you work, you just don't feel good enough? There's a part of you that knows you are capable. But this gnawing inner voice doesn't let you believe that you are ‘enough.’

Are you tired of living in "survival mode"? Either feeling chronically unsettled or inexpressibly low and numb! Perhaps, something feels missing; an emptiness you can’t quite put your finger on! There comes a time when just getting by is not enough and we can no longer hide behind a smile. Change begins when we decide that "waiting for the pain to dissipate" is no longer an option. So what if you could take back control of your life and live unchained by your history? How far would you thrive if you could tailor a life of your own design, uninterrupted by stress, anxiety or pain stories?

My clients face a wide range of issues including: Depression, anxiety, chronic pain, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), life transitions, career transitions, relationship challenges and parenting issues. When I first start working with clients, we develop a list of goals that they would like to work towards so that our work is focused and directed. Some examples of goals my clients have worked towards and achieved include: acquiring tools to feel more in control of their depression and/or anxiety, becoming more assertive with others, improving their relationships and feeling more fulfilled with their career.

If challenges at work or home are leading to lower functioning (e.g. poor sleep, difficulty thinking, more arguments in relationships), maybe it's time to get it assessed. Mood and physical issues often signal a need for change, extra support, and/or, a reset of sorts. Your body systems hold vital information: if you're not sure how to decipher the messages, let us help you.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
