The OCD program that I offer is research based and includes CBT, ERP, ACT, and IBA.
My name is Robert, Psychologist at the Obsessive-Compulsive ( OCD) Disorder and Anxiety Clinic of Ontario. I walk alongside individuals who struggle with anxiety and OCD as they journey through healing and recovery. I work exclusively with patients with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive ( OCD) disorder and I dedicate my time away from patients to researching and studying these conditions. I work with my patients on taking that knowledge and putting it into practice by teaching them how to control their anxious or disturbing thoughts, compulsive behaviors, and unsettled mind.

We specialize in the treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders (Panic, Agoraphobia, Social Anxiety, GAD), using CBT, ERP, & ACT approaches.
You may not show it, but you feel stuck. Your anxiety and fears prevent you from taking steps forward. Instead, you find yourself procrastinating and avoiding. You are consumed by doubt and overwhelmed by worry and unwanted, intrusive, uncontrollable thoughts. You try hard to avoid those thoughts, but they keep coming back. The more you fight them, the stickier they become. You try to tell yourself that the thoughts are meaningless, but somehow you feel you can never be sure. What if after all, something horrible will happen? What if the thoughts mean something important? Your friends and family keep telling you not to worry and explain that everything is just in your head. This reassurance helps for a bit, but very soon you are back to endless "What if? " questions. You tried therapy before. The therapist tried to convince you that what you fear is unlikely to happen and taught you relaxation, breathing, meditation, and thought records. But it didn't help and made you even more hopeless. You'd like to break free from your worries and fears and start living your life. If you are reading this profile, you may be finally considering making a significant change. We are here to help!

We understand OCD, and we can help you understand it too.
You're noticing changes in your child's behaviour; it doesn't make sense. They're acting strange, out of their character. Why does my child seem afraid; anxious? It seems like you've tried everything to help them feel better, but nothing seems to work and you're confused, fighting the feeling of helplessness. You find yourself walking on eggshells for fear of making the behaviour worse, because you don't understand what's happening.

As a Registered Social Worker, I seek to include all elements of the person in my practice. I am deeply committed to supporting individuals (teens and adults) facing a myriad of life challenges through a compassionate, person-centered lens. In addition to anxiety and depression, I have a therapeutic focus on the difficulties underlying ADHD and OCD. I specialize in modalities such as DBT, CBT, and Brief Therapies, to bring healing in the areas of anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, relational issues, phobias and more.
Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Does your hopes and dreams seem so far from being able to be achieved? Perhaps just getting through the day has been a challenge for you lately. More than ever, people feel anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about their tomorrow. As we go through life, we experience breakups, hardships, sickness, failure, and loneliness. My journey started with being born and raised in Australia where everything is said to be, “She’ll be right mate!”. We all know this is not the case.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
