While I offer therapy for all areas of concern, I do have specialized interests in: 1) substance use and addiction concerns, 2) trauma, 3) anxiety, and 4) grief and loss of any kind including death, non-death losses and life transitions.
All feelings and struggles welcome! Difficult emotions, unresolved experiences and life challenges are often trying to tell us something. They also provide a sacred opportunity to connect with your values, needs, inner wisdom and understanding of the self. In our work together, compassion, curiosity, empowerment and reflection are used to provide an opportunity where you can feel safe, heard and understood. I use a blend of therapeutic modalities to best fit your therapeutic needs. I also offer a mix of day, evening and weekend appointments for flexible scheduling.

Facing a major loss challenges us to our core. We can be left feeling overwhelmed and alone, full of grief, sadness, anger or fear. I will walk alongside you on your journey through grief. Together we can rediscover how to enjoy life again, grow your reserves and resilience. By being with and experiencing our grief - be it a death, miscarriage, infertility, aging, separation/divorce - we can ultimately find joy and appreciation for our lives and relationships again.

With 15 years of experience as the head counsellor at The Michener Institute, I offer professional support for anxiety, depression, grief, trauma and family challenges. My use of both Gestalt Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) gives me a wide range of options for support for both individual and couples. Gestalt focuses on the 'here and now,' our body experiences and childhood patterns and helps us be present in our relationships. CBT has been rigorously tested in over 1000 studies, and is a therapy that supports depression, attention deficit disorder (ADD), panic and anxiety, phobias and stress.

I strongly believe that everyone who sees me is doing the best they can with what they have. I support parents riding the roller coaster of parenthood, including fertility, navigating pregnancy loss and a wide range of other experiences. I provide support around grief and loss and exploring all the ways those themes show up during the perinatal, postnatal period and beyond. My therapy practice is integrative, person-centred, trauma-informed, and adapted to meet each of my client's individual needs. My goal is to provide support, bear witness and create spaces for clients to process the messiness of being human.

I am a qualifying psychotherapist with specialized training in grief and loss.
Grief can be completely devastating, and perhaps one of the most difficult things you may face in life. Grief is also a normal, human response to having loved and lost, and normal in the face of any loss, not just loss due to death. Grief is not a pathological problem in need of "fixing", but instead requires compassionate care, witness, and empathic support. It requires a safe space for its expression, and so do you. Whatever type of loss you are experiencing, your grieving heart needs extra TLC. There is nothing wrong with needing a little extra help or seeking the guidance of a counsellor at such a difficult time.

At times, life can be challenging. I've learned that these lived experiences are important in therapy. Whether it is a loss of a loved one, self-esteem, body image, family conflicts or care giver burnout…I’ve been there and I can help support you with that.

I support individuals that have concerns around anxiety, grief and loss, life changes, and family dynamics.
Hello, and welcome to the first step of putting you and your needs first. I am currently a Masters level practicum student in my Counselling Psychology program. I am being supervised by Michèle Mani (M.Ed, RP, CCC). I recognize reaching out for mental health support isn’t always easy. As a therapist, I look to create a safe, respectful, and culturally-sensitive environment for you to find your strengths, increase self-acceptance, and explore self-made narratives.

I have a special interest in working with individuals who present with diverse issues, including trauma, divorce, parenting issues, family life cycle transitions, grief, stress, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, addictions, personality disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and codependence.
We all have a unique journey that adds value to who we are and how we can contribute every day. My personal journey took me down some challenging paths that required me to find new hope and build from the ground up. I feel that the hardships, challenges and triumphs I have endured can inspire and bring hope to others. I believe that through the toughest times of our lives, there is always a silver lining.

My expertise includes acute and life-threatening health conditions, death and dying, grief, trauma, postpartum mental health, stress, depression, anxiety, interpersonal relationships, life transitions, sexuality and sexual identity.
I am Shawna - a passionate and innovative therapist who believes strong mental health is rooted in resilience and connection. Having worked exclusively with young cancer patients and their families over the past decade helped me realize that emotional pain and resilience are not mutually exclusive experiences - they live together. Through the process of recognizing and experiencing our deepest pain, fear and longing we can become better versions of ourselves. My style is empathic, intuitive, and interactive, and I uncover and guide my clients to use their untapped strengths, resilience, and potential for connection in their lives.

The overwhelming weight of anxiety, loneliness, past pain, and intense adult pressures has left you feeling emotionally exhausted and drained. As a young adult, you may be struggling with uncertainty about your future, self-doubt, or feeling isolated despite your efforts to connect with others. Balancing work or school, relationships, and personal expectations all contribute to you feeling stuck and frustrated. On top of that, past trauma or grief from recent losses make it even more challenging to move forward.

Your experiences, your grief, your way of being in the world are all uniquely yours.
I work with clients who are in the midst of change; grieving what once was, what could have been, and facing the uncertainty of what’s next. Many of us are familiar with approaching the unknown alone, but it doesn’t have to be this way. We can co-create a therapeutic relationship that gives room for all parts of you to examine the many manifestations of grief – deaths, violence, life transitions, identity shifts, familial changes, and other types of change and losses. Together we can explore new ways of relating to yourself, your story, and what it means to be here – now.
