Living with life-altering illness, abuse, trauma, burnout or a devastating loss can be such an isolating experience. Sometimes the people around you, even health professionals, don’t know how to give the right support. The last thing you need after being put through the wringer is to have your experiences minimized or invalidated or to be given advice that doesn’t fit. You deserve respect, validation, and above all, genuine kindness as you make your way through the worst things a human being can experience. You deserve solid, compassionate support along with the practical tools to build a life in which you can thrive.

My heart is for those who are overwhelmed, burnt out, stuck, struggling, and disconnected. Your story has made you who you are, but it doesn’t have to define your future. I believe you are the expert on your experience and my role is to help you find yourself again. During my years working with survivors of intimate partner violence, I developed a passion for supporting people through their personal journey of growth and healing. As a mother of four teens and young adults with ADHD and ASD, I am dedicated to helping individuals and families understand neurodiversity and learn to flourish.

I work with individuals who struggle to connect with themselves and others, experience strong emotions that at times feel out of control, including anxiety, anger and impulsivity, and those who have experienced emotional abuse, including narcissistic abuse.
Relationships and connections with others are an essential part of life. When those relationships cause us the most distress, where we do not feel emotionally safe nor loved without condition, we begin to question ourselves. We develop an amazing ability to categorize each problem and make ourselves believe that whatever is happening is not affecting us. When this coping strategy is applied, the body’s distress signals get disconnected from the mind. At times we feel numb, while at other times like our emotions are out of control. We may experience anxiety and fear, and/or have such low mood that we think we will never find joy.

I specialize in childhood war related trauma, grief (including the loss of homeland and identity), mental health and domestic/intimate partner violence.
I believe that thinking outside of our literal reality allows us to see the world through a more creative lense and find alternate ways of dealing with our problems. As a result, I use the Expressive Arts as a tool for therapy.

Depression, anxiety, agressive behaviour, obtrusive thoughts, low self-esteem, relational conflict, substance abuse, all of these can develop out of broken and/or unhealthy relationships or traumatic events where no supportive, empathetic relationship existed.
Personal relationships, anxiety/fear/depression and trauma are my main areas of interest. Each of these can negatively influence and impede us from making positive changes in our lives. It is my belief that our well being is founded, first and foremost, on empathetic, supportive, relationships. Therefore, our work together, whether one to one or with your partner or another family member, will in part, entail an exploration of patterns of behaviour, coping mechanisms and major life events that help answer the questions 'how did I get here?' and 'why do I feel so bad?'

Educational and therapeutic support have been provided to children/adolescents (ADD, FASD, learning disabilities, suicide ideation, developmental issues, academic underachievement, loss, bereavement, illness, abuse, at-risk).
A key element in choosing a professional is the level of ease and comfort that exists between you and your therapist. I am flexible, easy to talk to and have great interpersonal skills. My belief is that change management and transformation occur when people make decisions that are strategic and focused. I can assist you in dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions, abuse, poor self-image, family problems and other issues that are stopping you from 'living' your life. What about your children? Are they being bullied? Learning development problems? Exhibiting 'at-risk' behaviours? I can help!

I also work with survivors of sexual abuse and assault.
If you choose to work with me I will strive to create a safe, respectful and meaningful relationship with you. I will listen carefully, with empathy and without judgement. Sometimes I ask a lot of questions in order to understand, to the best of my ability, what things are like for you. In working together to help me understand your story, usually what happens is that things start to make more sense for you too. Confusion often gives way to clarity. Feelings such as anxiety, anger, depression and isolation often subside as well.
