However, I also integrate principles from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.
People begin to heal when they feel seen and heard in a no judgment zone. As a Toronto-based Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist, I specialize in working with individuals dealing with Anxiety, Depression, and Attachment Trauma. My practice philosophy emphasizes the importance of understanding the root causes behind the challenges you are facing (the 'why'). I can help you process your history and decrease negative emotions like anxiety, sadness and shame; learn new ways of coping; and shifting maladaptive thoughts (i.e strong inner critic) and behaviours that are getting in the way of you feeling better.

I strongly believe that everyone can benefit from the skills taught through DBT.
Do you struggle with your emotions? Do you experience either intense emotions (e.g. guilt, sadness, anger) or suppressed emotions? Dialectical Behaviour Therapy ( DBT) has been demonstrated to help regulate emotions. DBT can help calm emotional storms, increase enjoyable emotions and experiences, decrease unhelpful behaviours and coping strategies, and foster and improve positive relationships. Imagine what your life would be like if you had more balanced emotions, clear thinking even in challenging situations, and fulfilling relationships with others.

I'm also trained in DBT, CBT, Mindfulness.
With 35+ years of experience working with youth and adults who have experienced very difficult life events, challenges in relationships, and/or trauma(s), I help people move through these difficulties towards a life of meaning. When we feel stuck in life and/or feel like we have no control, it provokes a level of distress in us that can interrupt our sense of wellness and impact the quality of our relationship with ourselves and with others. That’s where I come in — together, we amplify your strengths and continue to build a vibrant life.

At Radically Open Toronto, we believe that we're better together! If you've had previous experience with standard DBT, you may have been told that you're doing the best you can, AND you need to do better.
Radically Open Toronto is the first Toronto-based practice serving eating disorders and specializing in Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Is your self-control out of control? Do you want to let go of your eating disorder, but struggle with strict expectations for yourself? Did you get lost in the details? Do you take things too seriously? If so, you might be experiencing maladaptive overcontrol. In my practice, I help people accept and appreciate their perfectionistic tendencies, deepen their connections to others, let go, learn to have fun, and take life a little less seriously.

I use a client-focused and spiritually integrated approach with tools from DBT, narrative, and solution-focused therapy.
Growing up in a Caribbean family taught me to serve others. Embracing Islam strengthened my passion for helping others. I offer a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients, inspired by the kindness of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. When I experienced a loss of purpose and an inability to tap into my inner strength, I had the blessing of meeting a female mentor Dr Tamara Gray, who gently guided me by encouraging me to re-write my narrative of my sensitivity as my power rather than a weakness.

I draw from mindfulness informed cognitive therapies (ACT, DBT, and MBCT), emotion focused, and somatic experiencing.
With the ups and downs of life sometimes we fall off-track and need a bit of help getting back up. Whether we get stuck in a funk, experience the pain of loss, or life transitions just seem too much. I’m here to meet you where you are and together cultivate a safe space where you can feel seen and heard.

With extensive training in CBT, DBT, EFT, Gottman Relationship Therapy, and Clinical Hypnotherapy, and as a certified EMDR therapist and EMDRIA approved consultant, I’d like to use the skills and insights that I’ve sharpened over the course of my career to help you break negative cycles in your life and step into deeper levels of intimacy with your partner.
As a therapist, one of my most deeply held beliefs is that each of us has the potential to live our best life. We can do this when we learn how to remain calm and collected in stressful moments, identify and detach from unhelpful thought patterns, and develop the courage to change behaviours that keep us stuck in negative cycles. Sometimes we’re able to do this on our own, and other times - especially when we feel routinely overwhelmed, frustrated, anxious, and discouraged - we need someone to walk alongside us to help us figure out how to regain control of our emotions, rekindle our hope, and navigate life’s inevitable difficulties
