My ideal psychotherapy client is an individual who is motivated to explore their inner world. Someone who willing to explore, and possibly reevaluate bedrock assumptions that play a major role in influencing our current attitudes and life choices. An ideal client also recognizes that a therapist's role is not to provide answers but rather to facilitate a process of self discovery which promotes emotional growth and lays the foundation for enduring change.

Are you struggling in your relationships with others? Relationships are complex and could be complicated. Yet, as human beings, we need others, and when there are challenges in our relationships we suffer and struggle. We all need to be loved and cared for, yet we often push away the very people we want to be close to. Rejection or the fear of it, could be so painful and makes us withdraw, isolate or hurt back. As a result, we may feel inadequate, unlovable, unworthy, and hopeless. Deep down, we want to feel connected, and we want to feel good about ourselves, and at peace.

My understanding and ways of helping with experiences of relational wounds and “broken heart”, emotional “burnout” and overwhelm, grief and loss, uncertainty and fear, despair and loneliness are deeply informed by attachment-based, emotion-focused, somatic-oriented, psychodynamic, trauma-focused, neurobiology informed approaches in therapy.
Sometimes we are looking for change, figuring out our next step, or getting stuck and not living our lives fully. There could be moments of deep emotional pain and struggle when we feel alone and vulnerable, facing isolation, grief, loss or insecurities in important relationships. Not always we see clearly how to tackle those and we want to have someone to check with, be heard and seen, or get ideas for new directions. Learning to face inevitable life challenges, upsets, and crises of existence with confidence is what therapy is all about.

I use a combination of Attachment-based, Trauma-informed Therapy, and EMDR to help you process past wounds and develop security.
Accepting a few individual clients online: Are you feeling anxious in your relationships? Feeling unseen, misunderstood, and stuck? Unprocessed events often show up as overwhelm, depression, conflicts, lack of boundaries, codependency, and low self-confidence and self-esteem. This can include things that happened within your close circles or systemic trauma. Through therapy, I will help you understand and unpack why you feel, think, and behave the way you do and learn and practice new skills for making positive changes. If you are ready to do the deeper work, I will help you. You can have agency over your own life.

Sometimes our experiences can leave us feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and dysregulated. These emotions can impact our relationships with others and our relationships with ourselves. I encourage therapeutic growth by nurturing the inner child, making peace with the inner critic, and reconnecting clients with their authentic sense of self. I value the healing impact of our parts being seen, heard, validated, and accepted. I work with individuals, couples, parents, and youth. I use Internal Family Systems (IFS), Person-Centered, Self-Compassion, Existential, Relational, Narrative, Strength-based, Attachment-based, and Polyvagal Theory.

I can help you to make sense of these experiences and make the changes you want. While I work with clients on a range of concerns, I have extensive experience working with people who have endured abuse or neglect, as well as with people of transgender experience and LGB folks.

I am an unapologetic queer, autistic/ND social worker and trauma therapist. I work collaboratively with autistic/ND individuals, families and professionals, offering non-violent, disability/racial/gender justice based healing support. Support is attuned, holistic, depathologizing and decolonizing. My work supports reconnection with self, community and culture. Our neurotypes are not "disordered". Deep healing and liberation come through resisting neurodisablist and sanist systems and finding pathways back to our embodied wisdom, power and JOY!

I mostly operate from Psychodynamic, Relational, Attachment-Based, and Emotionally Focused approaches.
People begin to heal when they feel seen and heard in a no judgment zone. As a Toronto-based Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist, I specialize in working with individuals dealing with Anxiety, Depression, and Insecure Attachment Wounds. My practice philosophy emphasizes the importance of understanding the root causes behind the challenges you are facing (the 'why'). I can help you process your history and decrease negative emotions like anxiety, sadness and shame; learn new ways of coping; and shifting maladaptive thoughts and behaviours that are getting in the way of you feeling better.

It can be difficult to feel understood or to cope when experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict or low self-confidence. It takes courage to reach out and ask for help, and I can provide a safe space where together we focus on skills that foster resiliency in the face of inevitable life challenges. I have more than a decade of experience working with adults (18+) dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, adjustment issues, grief, shame and guilt, interpersonal conflict, and perinatal concerns, etc.

Using an attachment-based and trauma-informed framework, we can dig deeper into your current parenting challenges and explore the ways in which your past may be showing up in your relationship with your children.
Whether you are a first-time parent or a seasoned caregiver, navigating the joys and challenges of parenting children throughout their evolving ages and stages of development can be tough! Depending on your unique experience, complicated and layered emotions can arise in the parent-child dynamic which can bring us back to our own experiences as children. These memories may be painful or traumatic and can get in the way of being the parent we envisioned for ourselves.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
