I often work alongside young adults and teens who live a creative and unconventional lifestyle and who have a unique set of struggles and strengths. Some are dealing with issues related to identity and self-understanding, and others are doing their best to manage the depth and complexity of their emotional landscape. I see a lot of deep thinkers, over-analyzers, perfectionists, and clients battling self-doubt and imposter syndrome. Anxiety and/or ADHD symptoms can be intertwined with these struggles.

I understand the ways in which ADHD and trauma can impact our emotions, relationships, and self-concept; where feelings of overwhelm, guilt, shame, frustration, and anger can leave us feeling stuck and isolated. I can help you make sense of your past and how it may be influencing you today; allowing you to approach these stuck points in new ways.

I provide therapy and psychoeducational assessments to children and adolescents. Having previously worked as a teacher, I like to use my experiences in the classroom to inform recommendations in psychoeducational assessments. As a therapist, I work closely with you to hear your story, and then draw upon techniques from a variety of therapeutic approaches to create a treatment plan that best meets your needs. I also understand that goals often shift during the course of therapy, so I like to include you in the process throughout to ensure that you feel understood and believe in the work.

We all have times in our lives when we know something is wrong, even if we don’t know what it is. You might feel off-balance, low energy, not yourself. Often you feel like you want to talk about what’s happening with someone, even if you aren't yet clear about it. You want to be able to talk with someone who won’t judge you, who won’t second guess your experiences, or try to explain them away, or try to rewrite your story for you. You want to be able to talk with someone who will listen without an agenda. Someone who can provide understanding and compassion, patience and authenticity. Let's talk.

Does any of this sound familiar? You survived emotional neglect. You work hard and are independent. Sometimes, your drive has harmed relationships and partnerships. Perhaps your family members struggle with alcohol or addictions. You often feel isolated and "not enough", and could use help from a person who understands these challenges. If you are Neurodivergent, in Recovery; or considering gender transition, I have specific education + experience to support you (Rainbow Health Ontario provider). I am Autistic (AuDHD), adopted, ACE, trans and in a loving marriage. I work, volunteer and learn in Harm Reduction communities.

Life can be overwhelming, unfair and full of the unexpected. As we seek change in our own behaviour and circumstances, we are often met with unexpected pain, anxiety, and anger that can be difficult to manage. Psychotherapy is a process in which we address obstacles in life and set goals to healing, understanding and moving forward. There is not challenge in life, big or small, that doesn't deserve the thoughtful reflection of therapy. I work with various presenting concerns, including issues with: anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, loneliness, self-esteem, processing break-ups, stress, burn-out, chronic pain and trauma.

So many of us have learned to shut down emotions in order to carry on. You may have noticed that this can only last so long. You do not need to have a mental health diagnosis in order to access therapy. All that is needed is the desire for personal and relational growth. We heal via safe re-connection with other humans - your story deserves to be listened to.

My therapeutic approach is centred on the client’s needs. Everyone comes from different and unique circumstances in life, and I believe that the therapy process should be unique to each client. For this reason, my approach is warm, judgment free, and draws on a variety of evidence-based therapeutic methods. Therapy can provide positive outcomes for a wide variety of reasons. My belief is that therapy itself can be a healing process. The act of sharing your thoughts, feelings, and worries is an essential step to a healthier and more fulfilling life.

Many things might be motivating your search for a therapist. Maybe you're seeking self improvement. Maybe life isn't turning out quite like you hoped. Maybe you're dealing with the aftershocks of trauma or trying to find meaning after a significant loss. Whatever brought you here, I want to hear your story. We'll work together to deeply understand what doesn't feel quite right in your life, but we'll also celebrate the things that do. Together, we'll create a nurturing space for your voice to be heard and your story to be told.

Life rarely goes to plan, and often we find ourselves lost, afraid, alone and without hope. The world we live in today is a strange one. Many things don’t make sense anymore, and people are struggling to find their way forward. At Psyche and Soul, my goal is to journey with you on the road you are walking. I offer a psycho-spiritual approach to Psychotherapy. I believe meaning making is central to our human experience. Sometimes we find ourselves disconnected simply because we’ve lost the plot of our own story. I would love to journey with you on your road to self-discovery and understanding.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
