Hello! I have a passion for working with individuals struggling to find their way to a more peaceful and centred life, be it due to turbulent relationships, depression, anxiety or anything else life throws our way. I centre my practice on an understanding that people are more than their problems and that we have the ability to create space for possibility and change. I also have a specific interest in supporting Black and Afro-Caribbean people as I know first-hand the comfort derived from accessing a therapist with lived experience of anti-black racism.

I use DBT, ACT, and IFS (the most efficient modalities in psychotherapy) to help YOU overcome Anxiety, Depression, Relational problems, Suicidal ideation, ADHD, and trauma.
Are you frustrated with your INNER-VOICE? Do you feel lost in this world? Are you tired of not reaching your GOALS? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’re in the right place. With over 10 years of education in psychology and 7 years of experience working as an international therapist, I’ve learned how our unconscious human mind can block our way and make us stuck. I can help you to change what is NOT working in your life. I design treatment plans based on your needs and use only scientific tools to ensure YOU get what you need out of therapy.

My aim in therapy is to help clients reduce and eliminate symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic, OCD, emotion dysregulation, trauma, addictions, loss, personality disorders, as well as the complex ups and downs that sometimes emerge in life.
How you connect with your therapist will be the most important factor in determining how you make progress in therapy. This bond and comfort to share personal information should start to build from the first meeting. With that in mind, I will provide a supportive, non-judgemental environment from which you can explore what is important to you. I have extensive training and experience (12 years counsellor; 9 years social worker, in hospitals, community settings and private practice) providing effective treatment for adult individuals, couples, groups, and supervising other therapists.

Using evidence based therapies and a collaborative, integrative approach, I help you learn tangible skills and strategies that could be used to successfully manage unwanted behaviours, anxiety, depression, stress, regulate difficult emotions, tolerate and cope through distress, build self-confidence and develop and maintain relationships that last.
Thinking that you might need some help learning how to process, manage and cope with what happened to you? Or perhaps you might desire to learn some skills to help you grow, deal with or overcome a particular struggle or fear. Whatever it is, the idea of therapy may also have you feeling a little freaked out and it might feel a little weird. My goal is to lessen those feelings and make this process as comfortable as possible. Whatever your goals are, you can trust me to help guide and walk with you through your journey towards healing and living a happier, healthier more fulfilling life that is all your own.

I often work with anxiety, depression and issues with life transitions.
I believe we are all capable of improving our lives but many of us become "stuck" in the process due to self doubt, insecurity, lack of self esteem, past and/or present trauma, losses, etc. My approach is to work together to find the most appropriate solutions for these issues, or find comfort and acceptance with the challenges of life. With broader perspectives, or an alternative life choice, we increase our general well-being. I believe in practical solutions and appropriate perspectives, allowing all of us a better sense of comfort and competency in everyday life.

I am naturally drawn to a Solution Focused approach; however, I utilize interventions from several different modalities and maintain an overall humanistic approach to working with clients. I work with clients being challenged by anxiety, depression, and relationship issues in their daily lives. I believe that our personal experiences impact the way we view the world, and our emotions play a key role in our behaviour and choices.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
