As a Christian woman, it’s hard navigating your experiences of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Your pain and suffering makes you question “If God is good, then why hasn’t he healed me? Is there something wrong with me? Do I not have enough faith?” Maybe past painful experiences of abuse or neglect haunt you and you can’t seem to forgive and move on. Depression and anxiety feel out of your control leaving you scared and hopeless. You pray and pray and pray and it doesn’t stop. Maybe you’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help as you hoped. You desire and need the peace promised in the bible but it feels so far away.

Trained in Emotion-Focussed Therapy and Christian counselling, I am passionate about supporting individuals with the following areas: Self-esteem issues, codependency/toxic relationship recovery, limerance/attachment issues, anxiety/stress, inner child work, and life transitions.
Are you experiencing turbulent emotions and thoughts, struggling with self-esteem, or are feeling lost? As a therapist, I aim to provide a safe space for you to talk through situations, emotions and experiences that distress you so that you can experience healing and momentum forward. My hope is that you come out of therapy with more clarity, direction, and resilience. Identifying as an East-Asian therapist, I find it meaningful to help adult children of immigrants through impacts of chronic stress and unhealthy dynamics.

Guided by attunement, we will make room for the unimagined, unthought, and unspoken as we become witnesses to a story no longer lost in time or veiled by shame but voiced by aesthetic compassion and grace. Understanding trauma as open wounds carried because of the violation of trust, or simply when life is too much, too fast, and too soon, together, we will allow space and time for your voice to move freely as we explore the beauty of the human condition.

You often struggle in an anxious fawn-freeze response with narcissists in your life, afraid to express yourself for fear of abandonment, rejection and their emotional reactions. You tend to pedestal others, people-please and behave in ways for approval but it is exhausting. Compulsive control, fantasizing, caretaking and perfectionism with people, relationships and life make you live in an arena of constant expectation, the need to keep up appearances and never feeling good enough is tiring. You yearn to feel safe and express your true self, be present and build healthier relationships and trust your life's authentic path.

In order to feel safe and in control, you may have learned certain survival and coping strategies to keep you grounded. Perhaps you are a child of immigrants, struggling to exist between two cultures. Or maybe you were afraid to disappoint others and taught yourself to never have any needs or boundaries. These behaviours, while understandable, may no longer serve you in the ways that you need. Together, we can explore and unpack your life experiences, offer understanding and validation to the shutdown parts of you, and learn to take up space and exist in our world. Psychotherapy can promote healing, resiliency and self-empowerment

In navigating life's challenges, we often construct defenses that, while once protective, now leave us feeling stuck and isolated. Together, we will work to chip away at these accumulated layers and begin to articulate a more authentic and comfortable way of being in the world. My approach is rooted in compassion and understanding, offering a safe haven for healing while encouraging you gently to your full potential. Together, we'll shift from the shadows of criticism, fear and shame to a path illuminated by self-discovery and growth.

Christian Counsellors

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognise an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
