Times have been more challenging than ever before, whether you are experiencing new struggles, or you have been coping with existing mental health challenges, I’m here to take this journey with you. Throughout our lives, we may experience troubles understanding exactly what we are feeling, overwhelming emotions, and painful patterns that can impact the relationship we have with ourselves, and those we love. We may find ourselves wanting to feel and react differently, process and heal from past traumas, and instead, feel more connected, balanced, and grounded within our every day lives.

“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” -Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. I believe that every person has inherent worth and is on a journey of healing, growth, and love. We all come with our own challenges and strengths. However, there may have been things that have made life not okay for you and that has brought on a layer of challenges that are heavy to hold alone. My commitment is to meet individuals, couples, and families in their process of making sense of the mysteries and difficulties in which we find ourselves and to offer encouragement, comfort, and hope.

We all have a story to tell that is uniquely ours. These stories can include our positive experiences but also times when we're faced with challenges that can make us feel stressed, overwhelmed, and unmotivated. As a therapist, I'm committed to providing you with a non-judgmental and safe space to tell your story. Whether you're facing a life transition, the effects of trauma, or challenges in your relationships—I want to help you to discover your strengths, embrace self-compassion, and take manageable steps towards your goals. I work holistically and collaboratively to tailor to the specific needs, values, and goals of each client.

I would be most helpful to clients who may be struggling at school (K-university), have ADHD or symptoms of inattention/hyperactivity/impulsivity, deal with emotional and behavioural disturbance, suicidal thoughts, or self-harm, have social interaction difficulties, deal with low self-esteem, have chronic illnesses or pains (this only for up to 18 years old), or struggle with adjustment to a new situation, whether it is a regular stage of life (e.g., moving out of house to a university, parenthood) or tragic life changes (e.g., grief, loss of loved ones). Consultation with schools is my specialty as well.

Do you struggle with anxiety or depression affecting your ability to function at work or home? Do you feel overwhelmed by the thought that there's no light at the end of the tunnel? Do you hope that life could be better? Now more than ever, people feel uncertain about finding their place in life. Not addressing your depression and anxiety can lead to feeling exhausted and unable to function. We believe it shouldn't be so hard to live a better life.

I'm Mitchell McGregor, a Mental Health Counsellor dedicated to supporting teen and young adult men on their journey. As a 23 year old myself, I closely understand the unique challenges that come with transitioning from adolescence to adulthood. The pressures of school, relationships, and societal expectations can be overwhelming. It can be a difficult and confusing time, and it's not uncommon to feel lost, overwhelmed, or unsure of where to turn for help. That's where I come in.

I offer feminist, trauma-centred therapy that works collaboratively to understand your internal world in meaningful ways. I am attuned to how family webs (present and ancestral), environments, and structural systems can influence the stories we carry about ourselves while holding space for the possibility other narratives, experiences, and emotions might also be central and important pieces to your identity. By exploring current location, childhood, significant attachments and experiences, and body-based wisdom I believe we will gain a richer understanding of who you are while working towards more emotional balance in your life.

Hope is powerful and is often what helps us push forward when life’s challenges become confusing and overwhelming. Yet, hope can be difficult to find and hold on to. I cannot promise solutions, but I am committed to walking with individuals, couples, and families in their search for understanding, growth, healing, and hope. I take a holistic and collaborative approach in exploring deeper emotions and thought patterns in past and present experiences.

Life can sometimes become overwhelming and people can benefit from a safe, open space to share their stories and receive support. Counselling and psychotherapy are services delivered through a therapeutic relationship with someone who is trained to support others. Some benefits to engaging in counselling and psychotherapy are: finding ways to solve problems, improving your self-esteem, practicing new and more positive behaviours, learning to manage emotions from stressors, developing a greater degree of self-awareness, learning to love and accept yourself, and improving your overall well-being.

Centre Bethany Centre is a place that provides counselling services that will contribute to the physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological well-being of individuals and families. Our approach is centred around healing in an African cultural context, that is to say, healing is the remedy that is required when something goes wrong with the functioning of the mind, body, psyche, environment and spirit. This malfunction often results in one feeling anxious; abandoned; physically, psychologically and spiritually traumatized; a sense of loss of self.

As we go through life, many times we may find ourselves stuck, lost, overwhelmed, challenged or just exhausted. We might need to discover ourselves again or change our way of life and let go of what no longer works for us. I work with people from different ranges of issues and cultures. Working with clients going through general anxiety, might limit my clients from achieving their goals to dealing with past trauma and its functions in their adult life. Each is on a different path with a unique blend of emotions and beliefs.

Do you feel disconnected or misunderstood? Are you having a hard time understanding your feelings, or feel stuck? Using an anti-oppressive approach, I work with individuals dealing with trauma, relationship issues, marginalization, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and deepening your understanding of yourself. I use a combination of therapy techniques taking your experiences and therapeutic best practices into consideration. I am trauma-informed, solution-focused and promote self-compassion. I always draw on strengths and for some clients, I use art therapy to explore challenging or persistent emotions.

As my mentors have helped me in my life, and as they have guided me through difficult points of self-growth and reflection, I have come to learn the value of being there for others to progress through our own difficult times. We need each other. I do believe it is far less problematic to overcome challenges with guidance and direction. Even more so when that guidance is refined through education, experience, and a standardized expectation of practice. I am capable of direct billing for ICBC and CVAP and can be accepted through other insurance agencies (i.e. Sunlife, BlueCross, GreenShield)

Being vulnerable with anyone can feel really scary at times, especially with a complete stranger, so I commend you for your bravery in taking the first step to help yourself, which is starting to look for resources, which led to you reading this message. I don’t believe that there is a fix-all approach to people, so I do not apply one theoretical practice to all clients I work with. Human beings are diverse and dynamic, so any approach to your mental well being should be as well.

Finding the right therapist can be a daunting and intimidating process. This is why I appreciate the strength and courage that it takes to reach out for help. I also admire the ambition and belief that positive change is possible. Therefore, I would be so honoured to support you in identifying your needs, goals, and taking these next steps with you. My goal is to build and maintain a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship with you, so you can feel empowered and confident, in yourself and in your decision making. I provide a comfortable and judgement-free space for you to be able to express yourself and grow.
