I am a psychotherapist who specializes in helping individuals heal from trauma, relationship issues, and other concerns. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including “Parts work” which is based on the idea that each person has many different parts to their minds and psyches. Each of these parts has unique needs, wants, and beliefs and may be consciously or unconsciously helping or harming us as we move through our days. I help my clients integrate the many pieces within them to create more choice, expand their capacity to problem-solve, and to give them a greater sense of wholeness and aliveness in their daily lives.

I have used various therapy models throughout my career, however, I chose to specialize in EMDR and IFS when I found that skills based therapies didn't help my clients because trauma wounds remained and so they were unable apply the skills when intense emotions came.
Hello and welcome to my Psychology Today profile. I work with individuals and couples in person and virtually across Ontario, PEI, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. Some people enter counselling due to symptoms of anxiety, depression, hopelessness and fear. Others wish to explore limiting beliefs or process difficult things that have happened to them. Whatever you need, there is a safe space for you here. My experience in crisis, inpatient, and outpatient mental health services, as well as specialized training in best practice therapy models, provides me with the right tools to help you achieve your therapy goals.

There are times in life, especially when you are feeling most vulnerable, that you need to share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Though friends and family are great and have good intentions, what do you do when their support and advice do not result in relief or the lasting change you desire? My primary purpose as a therapist is to be a safe and reliable person for you to explore emotions, motivations and behaviours; to help you improve self-understanding and relationships with others; to process grief and trauma; and to find healthy ways to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and experience desired personal growth.

In person, In Midland, or virtual. A lot going on right now and you want someone to talk to? Feeling confused, in grief, have unprocessed trauma, or need help managing a diagnosis? Sometimes it helps to talk to someone, get reconnected, and re-centered so you can make the best decisions for yourself. Talking may make the solutions obvious. I am here to listen, validate where you are today, and help you reflect on where you want to be. Every step of the way is client-driven so therapies offered will fit with who you are and work with your strengths. Hopefully, together we can help you build a life that makes sense and fulfills you.

If you're here means you may be searching for a change. It takes a lot of courage to choose you.

I specialize in work with teenagers and parents, as well in the treatment of trauma.
Hope is hard to hold when the waves of life are crashing over you. But without hope, we lose our anchor, we go adrift, and we can struggle to stay afloat. It is in these moments, we need a life jacket - something to lighten our load, to lift us up, and to help us feel safe. My role as therapist is to provide that support, to hold hope for you in those chaotic moments and help bring calm to stormy waters. Our work is about re-orienting and re-energizing you so you can chart a course for your ideal life.

Feeling overwhelmed, sad, or constantly anxious can really weigh you down, making it tough to enjoy life or even get through the day sometimes. If you've been battling these feelings, you're not alone. Many people, especially men, find it hard to reach out for help due to societal pressures to "tough it out." But acknowledging that you're struggling is a brave first step towards feeling better. Whether it's stress from work, relationship issues, or past trauma that just won't let you be, therapy can offer the support you need to navigate through these tough times.

My approach combines hypnosis, humour, and sensory experiences to communicate in a way that allows for trauma to be resolved gently and painlessly, allowing you to get more of what is beneficial.
Have you been feeling stuck and unable to change how you feel or act? Most likely you have been effected by experiences from your past. Consciously you may understand the value of changing a behaviour, but unless your deeper mind is transformed, change is not likely. Attempting to bring about enduring change without eliminating these "ghosts from the past" is like trying to repair the structure of a building by applying a coat of paint. Using a gentle, painless, and fun approach to therapy, I create immediate and lasting change through brain-changing conversations, teaching you how to stress-proof and play your brain for change.

I work collaboratively with clients from a client-centred, trauma-informed approach grounded in a culturally responsive perspective.
Navigating the struggles of the human experience is not easy. Traumatic events, times of stress, life transitions, grief, loss, and change can be unsettling and feel overwhelming at times. With support, these situations can offer opportunities for growth and transformation. We can work together to re-establish strengths and face challenges through compassionate, client-centred, non-judgemental, collaborative goal-setting, skill development, and meaning-making.

Using trauma- informed and relational play, creative arts, and mindfulness-based therapies, we’ll address and repair the roots of the behaviour that concerns you, instead of only adjusting on the surface.
You’ve noticed your child’s behaviour has changed recently and it concerns you. You want to support them in this fast-paced and competitive world, but you’re not sure how. You want to understand them, but it feels you’re hitting a wall whenever you try to reach them. And you’re getting tired of trying. For children and youth, growing up involves changes that impact their well-being and their self-esteem. With attentive and empathetic support, their ability to cope with these changes can bring them confidence. But without the right support, they can internalize ideas about themselves and their relationships that cause them pain.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
