I am an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach and I specialize in supporting individuals (adults and adolescents) and their loved ones to navigate eating disorder treatment. My clients tell me it's my warm, human, and relatable approach that helps them to open up, to be honest, and most importantly to take the challenging steps toward recovery. My clients reach out to me because they are struggling with symptoms that are eating disorder related and the co-occurring conditions that often co-exist.

I have been working with children, youth and families for the last 10 years, supporting various mental health concerns and struggles mainly within a school setting. The main modalities I use are Cognitive Behaviour Therapies (CBT), including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I love working with young people up to the age of 20 as well as parents of young people in different areas of concern like anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation. I love using concepts of growth mindset and emotion focused work to bring positive outcomes for clients and their families. I also support children and families with school related concerns.

Although I have such passion for supporting anyone seeking my services, my focus tends to be on women, women-identifying, and couples-related issues.
Stressed. Overwhelmed. Frustrated. Exhausted. Resentful. Do you identify with any of these feelings? If so, I'm glad you're here. It can be terribly difficult to know that we need change but not know where or how to begin. It can be helpful to have a trained, supportive, non-judgmental ear to cheerlead us on our path. That's what I can do! Hi, I'm Jenna.

You’re doing all the ‘right’ things to feel better but no matter what you do you’re still feeling out of sorts. Trauma leaves us feeling broken, damaged, and disconnected from our true selves. You feel discouraged that you might not be able to get back to living your life the way you want to. You’re anxious and people notice your ‘bad mood’ which makes you feel guilty for not ‘being better’ for those around you. You’re here which means you want to try something different. You CAN do this.

People don't need to be rescued or saved. They need the knowledge of their own power, and how to access it" (unknown) My own unique healing signature comes from using both indigenous way of knowing and by using western modalities. Most of my clients experience symptoms of Complex Post Traumatic Stress. I draw on various modalities that are used to shift energy in mental, behavioral, and psycho-spiritual transformations. As well as being able to look at self, to love self and feel safe enough to stand in their own unique magical self. I practice this daily by owning my unique quirky side of me. We are all sacred.

Therapy shouldn't feel like a chore. While it might sometimes be hard to hear what is discussed in therapy, overall you should leave feeling like you've gained something useful or even transformative. Over time, you should feel you are getting stronger, more resilient and have shed layers of fear and anxiety. Of course this process can be overwhelming at times and you might not always progress on the timeframe that you thought you would, but when therapy goes well, you should feel more settled and more clear about your life. You should gain understanding about yourself and others and have a renewed sense of purpose and passion

Operating virtually across Ontario and Nunavut. There are many reasons to enter therapy, whether it is to improve relational dynamics or to improve the relationship you have with yourself. Change is inevitable. Therapy provides an opportunity to shape the change you want with insight and intention and at a faster rate than if you simply allow time to make the change for you. While therapy can be hard, non-judgement and humour help make the process engaging and enriching.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
