In addition to my clinical practice, I have facilitated the development of programs and trainings throughout the USA and Canada on topics such as line of duty death, victimology issues, secondary traumatic stress and how to support the non-offending parent in child abuse investigations.
I value the the trust that a client places in me. I safeguard your vulnerability and work at your comfort level. My philosophy of treatment is the use of evidence-based and trauma-informed practices in a strength-based approach. Helping clients become empowered in their own healing, I am trained in TF-CBT, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and Structured Intervention Trauma-Child and Adolescent (SIT-CAP). I specialize in trauma treatment, grief and loss, stress, anxiety and mood disorders. Together, we create the vision for what healing will look, feel and become in your life.

I have worked with individuals facing varying life challenges and/or diagnosis, including borderline personality disorder, anxiety, depression, PTSD, Autism, ADHD & dual diagnosis.
We all need support in navigating life’s hardships, which can leave us feeling stuck, alone and overwhelmed. I strive to create a safe, caring, collaborative and supportive environment for you to explore life’s hardships, while also encouraging you to recognize your strengths. It is important for me to create connection, understanding, compassion, empathy and self-growth in your therapeutic experience. My goal is to support you in developing tools and coping strategies, while also digging deeper to create understanding of the underlying origin of patterns and themes within your life that are no longer serving you.

Let's work together to better understand and manage a wide range of emotions, improve communication skills, manage conflict, develop skills to manage anger, stress, anxiety and depression, cope with trauma and journey through grief.
Taking care of our mental health is more important than ever. Therapy allows you to comfortably share the thoughts, feelings, behaviours and relationship issues that are most troubling in your life. Therapy is a collaborative process, where clients are the experts in their own lives. Together, we will develop an understanding of who you are and the core aspects of what has brought you to therapy. We then will work on building on the strengths you already have and learn further strategies to put you forward in the life you want to lead.

I take a trauma-informed and integrative approach to healing, often incorporating mindfulness, emotion focused, EMDR and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills, techniques, and concepts in sessions.
Has trauma left you feeling lost, on edge, generally scared, or disconnected from others? Are there childhood experiences you'd like to resolve? Do you struggle in relationships and often feel alone, misunderstood and somehow different? Has your experience with a religious group left you feeling bad about who you are and with more fears than answers? Are you struggling with the question, "Who am I"? Does depression or anxiety leave you spinning or struggling to enjoy life? I have experience working in these areas with clients, and it would be my privilege to join you as you work your way through to the other side.

As trauma survivor myself, I respect the courage you’re demonstrating to seek support.
You’re doing all the ‘right’ things to feel better but no matter what you do you’re still feeling out of sorts. Trauma leaves us feeling broken, damaged, and disconnected from our true selves. You feel discouraged that you might not be able to get back to living your life the way you want to. You’re anxious and people notice your ‘bad mood’ which makes you feel guilty for not ‘being better’ for those around you. You’re here which means you want to try something different. You CAN do this.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
