Our life journeys are all unique as are our lived experiences. There are times throughout our lived experiences when we could benefit from support. Together, we will work on enhancing personal growth through self-discovery. I have a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (individual), with a postgraduate certificate in addictions treatment.

As a relational psychotherapist, I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are searching for meaning and new direction in their lives. Based on over 30 years of experience working with clients, I realize that there is no one method to be used with every client. Pulling on a wide range of modalities, including breath work and a body-mind awareness, I tailor our way of working based on the client's needs and issues. Also as a Jungian, I have come to understand the value of working with dreams in order to tune into the deep unconscious currents in the psyche.

My approach is trauma focused while incorporating psychodynamic and attachment theory.
Do you struggle to find ways to cope?Do you turn to behaviours that provide an initial sense of relief but lead to a cycle of dependence and negative consequences?Individuals may turn to substances, disordered eating, isolation, or avoidance as a means of managing difficult emotions, numbing pain, or exerting control in overwhelming circumstances. This may exacerbate feelings of low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and mood swings. I specialize in addictions, eating disorders, and mood disorders. I incorporate psychodynamic therapy to explore underlying patterns while supporting you towards self-discovery, resilience, and healing.

My professional training & experience in a variety of settings has allowed me to develop a CBT approach that is client-centered, strengths-based and trauma-informed.
“With a heart like that, you deserve the world.” (R.M. Drake) - Don’t we all deserve to be the very best version of ourselves, the Best You that there can be. Together, we can examine common negative thinking patterns; in addition, we can work on developing better coping strategies aimed at enhancing personal positive reasoning skills and attitude.

I bring an attachment, relational, and trauma-informed approach to sessions, as well as warmth, curiosity, and genuine care.
Many people come to therapy having felt a chronic sense of loneliness or disconnection, having had to hide or reject parts of the self in an effort to find belonging. Therapy is, for many of us, one of the only spaces where we can allow ourselves to be fully and deeply seen without judgment or expectations. It can become an important place to safely, and with guidance, express and explore the difficult emotions and experiences that have built up over time and are now feeling heavy, overwhelming, or harmful.

Trauma, addiction, and mental health struggles are all too familiar for countless people in Canada. These challenges often feel like overwhelming mountains, blocking the light and making it hard to see the path ahead. Yet, there is no reason for anyone to walk this path alone. My approach to holistic care is neither formulaic nor prescriptive. Rather, it is compassionate and patient. I blend evidence-based therapies, such as CBT, ACT, DBT with somatic techniques and energy medicine to nurture and support one meaningful step at a time.

I offer specialized trauma therapy through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive therapies (CBT, CPT) and a tool box of coping skills to manage distressing emotions, and situations (DBT).
Life is not bringing the joy you anticipated: You imagined life with a baby to be joyful and more fulfilling. You are disconnected, on edge, teary or angry without knowing why. Relationships are triggering your past or you feel you must not be like your parents, but how? Maybe you are having flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, nightmares or your relationship patterns stop you from feeling safe, present or able to calm your anxious body. You just can't cope anymore, or want someone to support you in a way that does not feel like extra work. You need space to process this new life and the life that came before.

I have recently joined forces with Psychology Matters as Director of EMDR Therapy and Business Operations. This position allows me to continue to focus on the trauma therapy work for which I have a great passion, as well as collaborating with the Psychology Matters team to meet the greater needs of our community. Having worked in this field for 17 years I've gained a deep appreciation for the influence of our early development on our present ability to cope. With this and the framework of EMDR I am witnessing amazing growth in the people that I am working with.

I focus on helping people deal with intrusive thoughts related to many issues, like Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), PTSD, and anxiety.
My career as a therapist started as a career in theatre and film due to my love of narrative and storytelling. Over time, I became more interested in how the stories we believe about ourselves shape how we live our lives. I use scientifically supported treatments like CBT to explore these stories and see how helpful or not they are. Of course, we often already know that something isn't working, but it can be hard to believe anything different. To that end, our sessions usually include seeking out new experiences to develop new perspectives. My clients tell me they're surprised by how much more they can do than they first thought.

I am trained in Play Therapy, AutPlay Therapy, TraumaPlay, Theraplay, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT, and Applied Behaviour Analysis.
All of our children are so very unique and constantly changing. Sometimes they need a helping hand to keep them moving along to thrive in their relationships and connections with others; or to develop strategies to support emotional regulation, social skills, life skills, anxiety reduction, concentration and focus, or processing of traumatic events. Throughout the process, parent/caregiver participation is a key component when it comes to working with children. My long-standing experience with neurodivergent children, youth, and their families will provide you with the reassurance you need to move forward.

With over 8 years experience as an Emergency Crisis Responder, I’ve witnessed firsthand the impact tragedy can have on individuals and families alike. The physical and emotional effect on those that have been victims of a crime or have experienced sudden loss can be overwhelming. It is because of this work I’ve devoted my practice to helping victims understand and comprehend their emotions and circumstances. By providing a safe, supportive and confidential environment, together we will work on processing the trauma and start the journey towards healing.

For those struggling with trauma, I will use EMDR or Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to process and resolve stored memories that have been holding you back.
Many people come to therapy wondering “what is wrong with me”? It is my view that the real question is "what has happened in your life that has impacted your beliefs about yourself and your ability to cope with stressful life events"? You may notice that you seem to automatically react to situations in a way that you don't necessarily choose and question if you will ever be able to change. If you have experienced highly stressful and/or traumatic events then you will benefit from a therapeutic approach that mindfully explores your personal experiences and strengthens your resiliency to respond rather than react.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
