I am thrilled to be able to help people, "help themselves." I believe we all have answers to our problems and issues, which talking to a compassionate, caring person helps to uncover. Trauma of any kind can make us susceptible to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Certain situations in life are difficult for us to handle at times. I help to provide strategies and guidance in trying out new ways to cope. Shedding light onto our issues and behaviour which is not working for us places us in in the driver's seat as we control our reactions.

When I made the conscious effort to connect emotionally, mentally, and spiritually with myself, others, and my environment, I realized the importance of relationship and the power of sharing our narratives with others. My practice prioritizes nurturing the need to connect. When this connection is made and individuals understand why the body, mind, and spirit respond and react in certain ways, they are ready to learn how to implement skills and strategies.

You are the "strong one". The natural leader at work, in your biz, in your family, or with your friends. You keep things to yourself because you don't want to "burden" the people you care about, but secretly wish you could run away. You feel things deeply & have a vision for creating change in the world but, over-empathizing, deep thinking, imposter syndrome, or anxiety, hold you back. You feel frustrated, angry, defeated & don't understand why. Your self talk is judgey & you just can't seem to get people to hear or understand what you're trying to say. You need a safe place to be real & vulnerable without pressure or expectation.

Life can be challenging, especially when you are becoming an adult. Your beliefs may not match with those of your family or friends -- that can be frustrating. You may be questioning where your life leads. Sometimes, crap happens and we eventually need to deal with it. Counselling is an option that can help you understand yourself and others around you. Think of it as hanging out with someone who's going to encourage you to be you.

You’ve lost your way. You’re not the parent or partner you want to be. Reactions come quickly and regrets soon follow. Solutions aren’t coming as easily as they used to, and you alternate between anxiousness and despair. Some days you feel okay and others, like today, you admit that maybe you need a different approach. It feels as if you’ve lost hope and faith in your ability to cope with the many stresses that have come your way. A challenging teen. A relationship conflict. A loss. And so, you find yourself here, contemplating this next step. You’ve come to the right place. Welcome to Insight Counselling Elgin.

You're just starting out, and no one told you it would be this difficult. You had hopes for this time in your life that are not turning out as you expected. Maybe your partner doesn't agree with setting boundaries with difficult family members. Maybe you're just trying to start your family and it's proving to be more difficult than you ever could have imagined. Maybe you are looking to learn how to express your needs, desires, and concerns with clarity and compassion while fostering open and honest conversations.

Life will bring challenges and difficult times causing confusion, fear, anxiety, depression…and numbness. We also experience transitions and losses, not only through the death of people we love, but loss of our health, relationships, jobs. Maybe you are a Health Care Provider with moral injury as a result of your challenging work? Chronic stressors can bring up feelings of fear and a lack of belief that we can cope. Some events and relationships may leave deeper, traumatic wounds. Sometimes it just feels like it is all ‘too much’. Whatever challenge brings you here, together we can work with and process these feelings.

We all struggle sometimes. We feel uncertain and overwhelmed, we get stuck. It’s a completely normal part of life, and there is no need to go through it alone. When we experience these uncomfortable feelings, we can feel disconnected from our relationships, experiences, and life in general. Our mental spotlight shines more brightly on our challenges, leaving the good parts often in the dark. I offer a safe environment to explore your life experiences, challenges, and needs through open and authentic connection. I invite you into a deeper conversation.

Opening September Waitlist . I work with adults and children impacted by trauma, crisis, loss, illness and other life challenges. Having worked for years surrounded by trauma and alongside first responders, I discovered that healing often begins with taking a moment for yourself and having support of someone who can help us navigate the pain. To get a better sense of what to expect, envision our sessions like friendly conversations where we address challenging issues using the tools I have, always aiming for you to leave feeling lighter and more grounded than when we began.

This hectic and at times uncertain life can feel overwhelming. When we lack grounding and direction it can feel like we will lose control of our emotions and ourselves. I practice counseling from a non-judgmental and acceptance based perspective where we can use your strengths, past lived experiences and new skills developed during the therapeutic relationship to move through the hard times and achieve your goals. My approach is to support you to identify the habits and patterns in relationships with yourself and others that may not be serving you and with this new awareness move towards your valued goals. EFT and EMDR Certified.

Your life reality does not match the vision you had and now you are feeling down, somewhat anxious, and maybe unsettled. You may be feeling like you want to make a move towards accomplishing your goals but you reel stuck. Your might be in conflict with family, friends, and co-workers but you are certainly in conflict with yourself. Your inner critic (the voice we all have in our heads) has an overpowering voice which is resulting in you not making a move and simply put - not feeling happy. You want more but you're not sure how to get it and you want to feel that core happiness you've heard others talk about.

The clients I serve in my practice are first responders, people of colour, indigenous communities and lgbt2sq identified people. You’ve been in therapy before and although you’ve seen results you aren’t yet at the place you want to be. Feelings of stress, anxiety, stuckness and depression are familiar to you. You’ve been going in circles in your relationships and your career and now you’re ready to dig deeper. Your core beliefs keep pulling you back into old patterns like people pleasing, controlling behaviours, co-dependency, and difficulty prioritizing yourself and identifying your needs.

Have you ever felt like you needed to do “more” or be “more” in order to feel like you are “enough?” Overwhelmed by guilt if you have needs of your own? Or believe if you did acknowledge YOU in relationships it could end in abandonment, disappointment or being alone? You may have learned to relate to yourself in this way for as long as you can remember and does not mean you are “broken” in need of being “fixed”. When we remove judgment and begin to see our “true self” through the lens of curiosity we get to reconnect with who we have always wanted to be but was too afraid to try.

Envision a version of yourself that feels fulfilled, whole and connected. Think about how your life may look as reflected by these values. Often times, the busy pace of life can leave us feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from ourselves and others. Pressures and expectations can make it hard to find our voice. You are not alone. Your voice is important and matters.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
