I approach therapy with lightness and humour as I focus on helping clients with substance use, anger management, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and life dissatisfaction.
Each of us occasionally needs help identifying solutions to life’s struggles. Other times, despite knowing solutions, we cannot take action. Regardless of current situations, emotional struggles, or past experiences, therapy helps us on a path of discovery to identify challenges and co-create solutions. I believe counselling allows us to work together, creating a life with increased happiness, emotional stability and fulfilling relationships.

Many of my clients often seek my support when the pressure gets too much—be it from feeling down and out, being on edge all the time, or just burned out from juggling too many things at once.
Feeling overwhelmed, sad, or constantly anxious can really weigh you down, making it tough to enjoy life or even get through the day sometimes. If you've been battling these feelings, you're not alone. Many people, especially men, find it hard to reach out for help due to societal pressures to "tough it out." But acknowledging that you're struggling is a brave first step towards feeling better. Whether it's stress from work, relationship issues, or past trauma that just won't let you be, therapy can offer the support you need to navigate through these tough times.

Let's face life's struggles and create change together, learning how to cope, persevere and thrive. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and that the key to success lies in building a safe, non-judgmental, and authentic relationship with my clients. As a former first responder, with over a decade of experience, I empathize with the traumatic experiences encountered by first responders and individuals everywhere.

You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, unsupported or unheard. I am committed to co-creating a supportive environment where you can open up and experience your feelings, without judgement. As teens and young adults, we all need a place to discuss our emotions and thoughts freely, while also learning tools to manage our feelings and help to reduce the frequency of negative emotions. Therapy is challenging but you are not alone in this journey for your health. I treat the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative and joint effort to help improve your life.

In my practice, I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment in which my clients can work toward their goals. I employ evidence-based methods, meaning that I integrate current research findings with my clinical expertise to determine the most effective course of therapy. While my theoretical orientation is largely cognitive-behavioral (CBT), I also draw on solution-focussed, experiential, and hu manistic approaches. My main areas of expertise include depression, anxiety problems, stress management, and anger management.

I'm interested in working with people who are ready to take a journey into self-discovery: to inquire compassionately into joy, fulfillment, distress and suffering. Perhaps you have questions about who you really are, how experience has shaped you, what your place in the world is, how to cope with life changes, or how to keep going in the face of injustice. Perhaps existence simply feels wrong in a way you can't quite pinpoint.

My goal is to provide mental health therapy appointments directed at diminishing and managing your emotional distress for adolescent and adult clients.
The foundation of my work is related to the impact or the disruption various negative life experiences have on both our psychological, and intellectual development stages. This allows me and my patient to identify the root cause of their chief concern that was presented in our first session, and in many cases treating various mental health disorders such as anxiety, grief, bipolar, depression, obsessive compulsive, paranoia, and post-traumatic stress, as well. I will also share that I have both a personal, and professional interest in those who have been affected by a motor vehicle accident, and I am registered with HCAI.

I keep up to date on modern research trends and obsessively read many of the highest caliber thinkers of our day.
I'm typically relaxed and conversational and love having conversations that get to the heart of the matter. You could say I specialize in getting people "unstuck" from their current way of thinking about and dealing with issues, through the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills and strategies. I love asking thoughtful questions and re-framing your situation so you can approach it in ways you haven't considered before. We then create a practical plan that gets to the root of issues and ensures you have what you need to succeed.

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
