I believe everyone is the expert in their own life, they may just need some help to navigate life's challenges. A strong therapeutic relationship is the key to clients meeting their goals, and I strive to create a space where pre-teens to adults feel safe to talk, share and explore challenges they are facing. I value collaboration and tailor treatment to each individual/ family/ relationship, and I utilize a number of evidence-based techniques to help clients work through obstacles, develop healthy coping habits, and flourish in their life.

My goal is to support and encourage clients to utilize skills and characteristics they already possess to cope with the difficulties and challenges of life and to embrace new perspectives, new skills, and understanding that can help them move forward in their journey. I believe that therapy is a team effort, where both the client and the therapist have a lot to contribute to the process. My passion in life is helping and supporting people, so if you would like counselling or have any questions about the process, I would be happy to talk with you.

If you’re a parent looking for the right service for your child/youth, then look no further! My compassionate, playful nature works well with children as I integrate evidenced based therapies through their language of play and curiosity. These skills also translate in my work with adults through a trauma and attachment treatment lens. Between my experience working with children, teens, and adults, my skill set is diverse and can be best used to support you or your loved one in the therapeutic journey. My skills range from trauma processing and identity work to cognitive and behavioural interventions (i.e. CBT, DBT, ACT).

IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITY - that there is a way to think differently; to feel differently; to live differently. Within each of us, we possess the tools we need to heal & be happy. But sometimes we make unhealthy choices in order to cope with emotional &/or physical pain. Despite our best intentions we can spiral downward, negatively impacting our relationships, careers, physical health & lifestyle. I believe that with support, change can happen. I am registered with a Master of Social Work & over 30yrs of clinical experience in the areas of trauma, addictions, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, parenting, life transitions & mindfulness.

Some of the modalities that I use in my practice include EMDR, Somatic Experiencing (SE), Clinical Hypnosis, and Ego State Therapy.
Trauma disrupts our lives in profound ways. It can impact our sense of self, our relationships with others, our thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and the way we see the world. Sometimes the obstacles that we encounter cause us to feel stuck and make it difficult to attain the kind of life that we want. However, I believe that we all have an innate capacity to heal, grow, and make positive changes in our lives. Counselling can help facilitate this healing and personal growth. I specialize in treating trauma, including complex trauma and dissociative disorders.

EMDR Counsellors

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
