You’re ready for a career change but you have NO IDEA what your next step would be.
Imagine, you’ve been working for 15+ years and you’re unhappy in your career. You’re about to turn 40 and you don’t understand why this dissatisfaction has been following you in every single job you’ve ever held. You might even wonder if there’s something wrong with you? (FYI - no nothing is wrong with you).

Work Stress & Career Counselling. On the outside life seems good but inside you’re feeling anxious, tired and overwhelmed, and you just don’t feel like yourself. You often wonder how you’ll make it through another day and your head is constantly swirling with negative thoughts. You feel frustrated, worried, and at times helpless, and anxiety is seeping into your personal life. You are a deeply caring person but feel exhausted from overthinking and overworking. You are tired of not prioritizing yourself and you wish you had more control over your thoughts, your schedule, and your life.

Sometimes in your career you hit a point where you don’t know how much farther the current approach will take you. You wonder how much more you can handle of the day-to-day operational pressures. Moments when you feel it’s time to pivot and take a leap of faith to what you love. Environmental factors e.g., COVID-19 Pandemic or changes in family dynamics, can force you to re-evaluate what is important to you and your career; it takes courage and tenacity to create a balanced life. How do you calm the anxiety about shifting career gears and develop your emotional capacity for a more fulfilling career or self-employment pathway?

Having worked in a demanding corporate career for a decade prior to becoming a therapist, I specialize in helping type A anxious women tame their intellectualizing, overthinking brains.
You're smart, successful, driven - but you're stuck. On the outside nobody would guess it, but on the inside you feel torn apart. Your anxiety is relentless, your inner critic berates your every word, you can never get caught up on your to-do list, and no matter how much praise you get - you simply don't believe it. You wonder if you have anxiety, or maybe it's ADHD, or maybe even depression or past trauma. You definitely know you can't relax, it's hard to even stay still. You've read the self-help books, tried meditation, mental health walks, journaling...You know at the core you need to "love yourself", but truly don't know how.

I have experience supporting human beings with chronic illness and pain, eating disorders, relationship with food, burnout, job-related stress, giftedness, creativity/art, ADHD and highly sensitive people.
Feeling anxious, caught in the cycle of people-pleasing or struggling with an eating disorder? Are you disconnected from your true self or struggling with relationships? Childhood trauma can have lasting effects that limit us, impacting our self-esteem, direction, and relationships. If you're navigating the conditioning from emotionally immature or neglectful parents, or if relationships don't feel safe, holistic psychotherapy can be your compass for healing. There's hope for breaking free from old patterns, knowing your true needs and desires, and living a life aligned with your authentic self, not just societal expectations.

A depth of experience working with relationships, anxiety, career issues, sexuality and the generalized existential angst we are undergoing in these very unstable times.
As a social work trained psychotherapist (Ontario) with over a decade of private practice experience, I hope to bring an open and accepting mind to a wide variety of clientele. Finding a good fit in a therapist is so hard, especially if it is your first time reaching out for help. It can be daunting. To me a good therapeutic space is one in which trust and compassion can be established, where a person can feel both supported and sometimes gently challenged, and where a relationship is created in which one can feel not only heard, but also understood.

As a certified clinical trauma professional, I provide counselling to individuals with varying mental health concerns including grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, personal and interpersonal relational issues, stress management, self-esteem, confidence, acute or chronic illness, and transitionary changes such as career, education or familial changes.
Welcome! Making the choice to engage in therapy requires courage, however it can be an empowering and positive experience towards a more fulfilling life. Over the past 14 years I have integrated my training and work in clinical and agency settings to offer counselling to clients looking to improve their mental wellness and overall functioning. Some clients report feeling ready when they cannot eliminate feelings like they are "facing an uphill battle" or that they are "overwhelmed" by daily life stressors and need support.

Career Guidance Counsellors

How do I know if I need career counselling?

Determining whether a career counsellor is needed involves assessing one's current career and identifying what changes can be made to improve one's overall quality of life. In particular, feelings of loss of motivation, fatigue, anxiety, depression, procrastination, or ongoing levels of high stress can all be indicative of a need for career-related counselling. In addition, individuals changing jobs may want the decision-making support or self-reflection opportunities provided by a career counsellor.

Who can benefit from career counselling?

Anyone can benefit from the self-reflection, skill development, and stress management techniques that career counselling can provide. However, individuals who are feeling overwhelmed or burnt out with their current job and individuals considering a major career change may particularly benefit from career counselling to improve their wellbeing. Additionally, individuals who are facing issues in their current job, such as coworker relationship challenges or not meeting performance goals, may benefit from the perspective that a career counsellor can provide. College-age or young professionals may also uniquely benefit from career counselling as they make key decisions surrounding education and job training that will impact their career trajectory.

How long does career counselling typically last?

The length of career counselling can vary greatly depending on the needs of the individual and what type of support they are seeking Career coaching or advising services—which serve clients in a specific, goal-oriented capacity—often last for a shorter duration and are sometimes only a single session or a few sessions in length. In contrast, career counselling as part of a more integrative therapeutic relationship with a counsellor may last longer, particularly if the issues faced by the client are longstanding and/or more complex in nature; in such cases, individuals may expect therapy to last multiple months or longer.

How to prepare for career counselling?

Clients can prepare for career counselling sessions by outlining the specific topics they would like to address with the counsellor, such as current job challenges or hopes for the future of their career. Compiling one's thoughts on such topics often requires reflection on one's career and future goals, which in itself can be beneficial for session preparation. Clients may also want to put together a list of questions they would like to ask the counsellor, particularly if the career counsellor they are seeing has particular expertise in a given career area. Conducting research into potential future jobs, training opportunities, or support resources in one's area may also help clients prepare for career counselling by providing them with a background of what resources are available in their area.
