Reaching out is an act of courage and self-respect.
(Ontario-wide therapy). Hello & welcome. Is your mental load building? Maybe the weight of your loss or trauma feels incredibly heavy to carry and memories are confronting you in waves. You feel anxious, irritable and low in energy and want someone to walk alongside your struggles with you in a warm, respectful, and skilled way. Through both personal & professional experience, my passion formed for helping people better understand their feelings, pain & struggles. Listening with true empathy and attentiveness, I help people work through their stress & anxiety, depression, loss, moral injury, trauma & PTSD, among other challenges.

We integrate thinking and/or behavioural change-based approaches like CBT, DBT, ACT, CPT, interpersonal therapy, cognitive rehabilitation, life skills training (and more) to help support your overall well-being and growth.
Imagine feeling trapped in a whirlpool of anxiety, unable to pause and take a breath. Or envision a racing mind that won’t slow down enough to focus on the strategies that could help. Conventional therapies might have all the right answers, but the body refuses to cooperate. You know WHAT to do, but your body and brain won't listen! Whether it’s extreme anxiety, hypervigilance, or attention deficit problems, challenges often lie in a constant battle between the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous systems that leave many people caught in an unproductive cycle.

My special clinical and research interests in working with individuals with terminal illness have led me to become well versed in end-of-life and existential considerations and approaches, such as acceptance and commitment therapy, dignity therapy, and meaning-making.
I offer assessment, therapy, and consultation services to adults and couples contending with a range of challenges related to adjustment to significant life events and transitions, anxiety, depression, end-of-life considerations, grief and loss, interpersonal difficulties, post-traumatic stress, and treatment adherence. While I emphasize an experiential (i.e., emotion-focused, mindfulness-based) approach to therapy, integrated within interpersonal and systems frameworks, I am also able to draw on cognitive-behavioural techniques.

I am a therapist for other therapists, a healer for wounded physicians. Our clients are high performers who struggle with the downside of over control, perfectionism, and anxiety. Many clients complete their therapy less controlled by their conditioned habits, fears, traumas, and aversive motivations. It gives me joy to see clients leave their time with us with all parts more aligned with Self, Curiosity, Compassion, Clarity, Connectedness, Creativity, Courage, Confidence.

We can build on the knowledge and skills you possess to help you cope with all you experience, to find a greater sense of peace and contentment in your life, to work towards acceptance of what you cannot change and to create space for changing the things you have control over in an effort to build the life you want for yourself.
When you’re feeling stressed and unhappy, life feels heavy. Issues like depression, anxiety, stress, grief and loss and low self-esteem can make life difficult and you often wonder, “is this all there is?” Perhaps you’re struggling with PTSD, or you are a First Responder who has seen so much you don’t even know where to begin. You might be struggling with anger, addictions, fertility issues, perfectionism or relationship difficulties. Maybe you even find yourself wondering if it would matter if you were here at all. I am here to say, you’re in the right place, and I am going to help you.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
