Death, divorce, losing a job, relationship struggles, addictions, or uncertainty over the future you hoped for. The sadness and thoughts that show up unexpectedly and won't go away - those are grief and anxiety. It's a heavy consuming feeling and you just want some relief - to feel normal again. You know you need to talk to someone about what you're been through, but don't want to burden your friends or are worried they might judge you. I can help. I’ve worked in an Intensive Care Unit and in the Medical Assistance in Dying Program - I’m no stranger to grief, stress, anxiety, burnout, and shame.

I work with adults and youth who experience low mood, anxiety, self-esteem concerns, relationship conflict, loss, and grief. Knowing how challenging life can be, it is important that we have a safe community and people to assist us when sometimes we cannot manage our experiences alone. Thus, together within therapy, we will work as a team to explore present patterns and behaviours that result in feelings we wish to change and build a strong and compassionate belief of self, exploring new strategies and techniques along the way.

Are you or your teen struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, anger, self-harming behaviours, or a major life change? Navigating adolescence has always been challenging - years filled with personal growth, identity exploration, friendships, and relationships. Being a teen today is harder than ever before, especially with the pressures of social media. The emphasis on self-image and the weight of expectations can be overwhelming - it's no wonder that so many teens and young adults are struggling. Too often, they are facing intense emotions and thoughts alone.

Work through past trauma and grief.
Feeling Stuck? Are you unhappy? Do you doubt yourself? Want to make changes and don't know how? Doing what you "SHOULD DO" instead of what you 'WANT?" Do you feel a sense of emptiness or meaninglessness in you life? You have the power within you to alter your perceptions and limiting thoughts. Rather than look outside of yourself for meaning, I invite you to explore what's within. You can change the storage of your private thoughts The past is one chapter of your life and now you can create a new chapter that will support you.

I specialize in supporting clients who are 2SLGBTQ+, neurodivergent, experiencing grief (all kinds), navigating life transitions or identity formation, unlearning diet culture, and those ready to process/heal from religious based harm.
Are you coming to therapy with questions about your identity, trauma, taking up space, doubt, or how to navigate change or difficult relationship dynamics? Do you feel like you might be the only person who has ever felt this way? Or like anxiety has been keeping you from accessing the support you deserve? As a queer person who has benefited greatly from my own therapy, I know how important it is to have a nonjudgmental space where I can show up as my whole and authentic self and have my grief, loss, and doubts witnessed and validated. I would be honoured to create that space with you.

My passion is working with those who have experienced trauma, oppression, and loss.
If you are looking for a therapist who you can have a genuine conversation with, receive compassion, and feel understood we might be a good fit . For me, what is most important in working together is the relationship we develop. I truly believe a trusting relationship with your therapist where you feel safe, secure, and gently challenged supports healing, change and growth. I work with ages 12+ who have experienced trauma and loss, are wanting support with mental health (anxiety, depression and/or PTSD), are struggling with relationships, or need an affirming place to explore and discuss their gender identity and sexuality.

Life can be hard sometimes and can feel even harder when we think we have to do it alone or “be strong”. Vulnerability takes courage. Let us witness that courage, and support you through challenging times. Together we can learn to find balance, tolerate that which is intolerable, and learn to co-exist with any and all our emotions. At J.A.G. Village we know grief, mourning, and bereavement very well. We know that it can be very disorientating. Our role is to help you navigate this new terrain while also supporting and bearing witness to the experiences you have along the way.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
