I am happy to work with people of all faiths, and can provide a Christian perspective if you would like to include this in your counselling.
Are anger, anxiety, depression or stress blocking you from achieving your personal goals? Are you suffering from grief, loss or betrayal? Maybe you are just feeling stuck. Perhaps your romantic relationship is in jeopardy. Many people are struggling with issues from their past. I can help you heal from trauma and add new strategies to your coping skills. There are lots of strategies we can use to improve your relationships and your ability to cope with the pressures and challenges of life. Together we can find solutions to help you resolve the issues that concern you most.

Why Christian therapy? Because many Christians believe they have to separate their mental health from their faith and that is not the case! We cannot leave our faith out of our healing journey because it is a large part of who we are.
My name is Shannyah and I am Christian psychotherapist and registered social worker. I have been in the social work field for 8 years, with ample experience working with youth, young adults and marginalized communities. I am the founder and clinical director of Shannyah Christian Psychotherapy & Consulting where I offer safe spaces for Christians to heal from trauma and mental illnesses, while intersecting faith and mental health practices. I have worked with many clients who have experienced trauma & PTSD, depression & anxiety, mental health disorders, identity issues, life transitions, church hurt and other faith-based issues.

As a Christian therapist and wedding officiant, I blend empathy with a holistic approach to reconnecting and healing.
You’re tired of feeling like you’re the only one holding things together. The love, connection, and trust that once came so easily now feel out of reach. Maybe you feel unheard, unseen, or like you’re constantly walking on eggshells. You’re exhausted from giving so much, yet feeling like it’s never enough. That emotional weight of managing everything—your relationship, your family, your faith—has left you drained. You long for things to feel easier, to feel like partners again. I’m here to help you rebuild that closeness, find your voice, and bring back the joy you’ve been missing.

As a Master of Social Work student under the supervision of a fully licensed Social Worker, I understand the courage it takes to seek help, especially if you're dealing with anxiety, depression, addiction recovery, or exploring your identity. As a first-generation immigrant and born-again Christian, I have a deep understanding of cultural, racial, and spiritual concerns. My goal is to create a safe, empathetic space where you can address these challenges and work toward personal growth, recognizing the connection between mind, body, and spirit.

We all encounter situations at times that seem too difficult to deal with alone. Situations that force us to reconsider what we've grown accustomed to, or question who we are. Situations that cause us to experience extreme feelings of anger, depression, anxiety and in turn affect our intra and interpersonal relationships. There is no reason that you should carry these burdens on your own. I work with clients who experience extreme anger, depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, self-image and self worth related issues.

You have everything, yet nothing. You try to make meaning of your life, but deep down a feeling of emptiness lingers. You deeply want to feel a genuine sense of happiness, but sadness overwhelms you. The deep wound of your past has you in a state of depression, anxiety, anger, and chronic stress. You have uncontrollable thoughts you try to ignore but cannot. Living with a sense of peace is hard to gain and you are exhausted. These feelings are affecting your relationships, your employment, academic pursuits or just your ability to manage day to day activities. If this sounds familiar, I am here to help.

Good news! Asking for help is never a sign of weakness but a sign of strength! Accepting new clients again September 2024! Life struggles can happen to anyone, we are all human. Sometimes life throws things at us that we just don’t know how to deal with in an effective way on our own. Other times we miss the skills or insight we need to build long lasting and enjoyable relationships. Maybe you have tried to bring change but it seems nothing has worked so far or only for a short period of time. Whatever the cause of your current struggles, I care about you and your situation and offer a safe place to explore them.

I help second-gen immigrants move out of survival mode and break generational cycles for good, so that they can speak their truth, live authentically and find peace in the present. As a child of immigrant parents, you probably straddle two worlds and navigate powerful family and cultural expectations. You may be feeling stuck, discouraged or even overwhelmed as a result. Yet there's a way to break the cycle so that you're both respecting your family and being true to yourself. If you're motivated to leave a different legacy to your kids, then you're exactly the kind of person I can help.

Life is a journey and we are all walking that journey together. Sometimes the sun is shining and things are great. Other times it is raining, dreary and lonely, where we need someone to walk part of that journey with us. I would like to be that person who walks part of your journey, providing support, compassion, and help you to tap into the wisdom that is part of you already.

Christian Counsellors

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognise an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
