My areas of expertise are depression, anxiety, OCD, relationship issues, addictions, financial issues, anger management, bereavement, self-esteem, sexuality, transgendered/transexual, trauma, workplace issues, MVA, and eating disorders.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families. I work with clients to improve their resiliency and help to uncover their strengths. I use different modalities to meet the individual's needs. I use a client-centred approach that gives the client the ability to drive the sessions' goals. I help clients connect the dots between patterns that were established in their childhood and its manifestations in adult life. This aids in understanding the connection between the two and enables an exploration of ways to alter them.

Anxiety can paralyze us. Strong emotions can turn our lives upside down. One sentence expressed in a moment of anger can lead to many moments of pain. Being human has never been an easy experience. In the context of increasing world turmoil financial hardship, and constant change being human has become exceedingly difficult for many. In our attempts to move forward, many of us rely on strategies we think ought to work, but in fact make things more complicated for us. In the midst of strong emotions, we try to avoid the situations and people that lead us to these experiences.

I will be there for you, to understand you and give you lots of room for whatever comes up. I work with people who have experienced trauma, pain, and are struggling to make meaning. If you wonder whether your therapist is going to be able to hold space for everything you're bringing, I'm a good fit for you. Whether it's anger, shame, hopelessness, thoughts of death, or things you never told anyone, I will be there and I can help you hold it. I believe in the inherent dignity of all people, and it shows. I am also solution-focused. We do not just sit with pain, we figure out how to make meaning together, so you can live well again.

My ideal client is willing to engage in self-reflection, explore the deeper existential issues related to his/her predicament, and discover the pathways of actualizing his/her potential and dream. Such a client can be a new college graduate struggling for a better understanding of her self-identity or a senior questioning his life's meaning. The issues I am best suited to addressing are both the dark sides of the human condition-such as depression, anxiety, anger, loss, suffering, and death-and the bright sides of personal growth and flourishing.

Deep down, you know life can be better. You've done your best to keep it together in spite of how difficult it seems to do and to be your best. You may have endured stigma for being "different," or experienced bullying or neglect. You may be struggling in a family relationship or with your partner because you or the other person is neurodivergent or from a different culture. You might be dealing with debilitating fear, worry, anger, shame, and sadness, wondering if life has to always be this hard. Deep inside you, though, there's a small voice of hope that says you can do better than just "making do."

Borderline, Narcissistic, and Avoidant Personality Disorders (BPD, NPD, and APD), complex trauma, autism, and undiagnosed ADHD can lead to insomnia, addictions, anger issues, major depression, and crippling social anxiety.
You're hurting. Despite the brave front, you're wondering if anyone really sees you, hears you, or understands you. In moments of deep honesty, you admit to yourself that you've been feeling this way for a long, long time. A friend of yours, a family member, maybe even your partner has told you that "You could use some help." You've googled your symptoms and downloaded apps, but you're really not sure what's going on with you. You've even tried therapy before, but it only seemed to scratch the surface. You're not alone, believe me. You sound like most of my clients.

I work with individuals who struggle to connect with themselves and others, experience strong emotions that at times feel out of control, including anxiety, anger and impulsivity, and those who have experienced emotional abuse, including narcissistic abuse.
Relationships and connections with others are an essential part of life. When those relationships cause us the most distress, where we do not feel emotionally safe nor loved without condition, we begin to question ourselves. We develop an amazing ability to categorize each problem and make ourselves believe that whatever is happening is not affecting us. When this coping strategy is applied, the body’s distress signals get disconnected from the mind. At times we feel numb, while at other times like our emotions are out of control. We may experience anxiety and fear, and/or have such low mood that we think we will never find joy.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
