Therapy shouldn't feel like a chore. While it might sometimes be hard to hear what is discussed in therapy, overall you should leave feeling like you've gained something useful or even transformative. Over time, you should feel you are getting stronger, more resilient and have shed layers of fear and anxiety. Of course this process can be overwhelming at times and you might not always progress on the timeframe that you thought you would, but when therapy goes well, you should feel more settled and more clear about your life. You should gain understanding about yourself and others and have a renewed sense of purpose and passion

I work with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan and draw heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) techniques.
****** Waitlist is currently 3-6 months ****** Walking beside people through their therapy journey is a great privilege and I can't imagine myself doing anything else. I have been a therapist for over ten years and get told over and over again by my clients how easy it was for them to let their guard down, to build trust and comfort, and to begin to transform their hopes for therapy into meaningful growth and change. I exude warmth and genuineness and I know that great therapy cannot happen without a strong relationship between client and therapist.

Certified in EFT! We want intimacy and emotional connection but feel helpless to attain it. We want to be able to talk about our feelings and needs without getting caught up in the same frustrating arguments that go nowhere. We want so much more than feeling empty inside like roommates, just parents, or good friends who pay the bills together. We desire safety, security, and love. But we have so many doubts and questions: Am I too dependent? Too independent? Codependent? Am I too much or not enough? How can I build more balance within myself and in my relationship? How can I feel seen, heard, and fulfilled without creating conflict?

It can be difficult to reach out for support when we find ourselves adrift in the ocean of our lives. Perhaps you've momentarily let go of your anchor and don't know how to find your way back or maybe you've been floating on your own for as long as you remember. Your circumstances and experiences are unique, but you don't have to be alone on your journey. I strive to use my professional training and unique insight from my lived experience to create a safe, non-judgmental and collaborative space where you can be free to explore your identity, experiences and internal processes.

In an effort to offer you the most effective support possible, I have completed post-graduate certificates in evidence-based therapies such as Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and perinatal mental health.
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. Many people initiate therapy when something big is going on in their life – mental health symptoms, a big life change, or a sudden loss. But you don’t have to wait until life feels overwhelming to seek support. I welcome it all into my practice - no concern is too big or too small to bring to therapy. I specialize in supporting adults (18+) in healing from trauma, depression and anxiety, and supporting those navigating the perinatal period (including perinatal mental health issues), perfectionism/people pleasing, and those that identify as empaths and highly sensitive people (HSP).

Emotionally Focused Counsellors

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
