Waitlist for new clients
For almost 20 years, I have been working with individuals and families, walking beside them through challenging times and helping them to make positive changes in their lives. I enjoy helping people who have experienced all sorts of life challenges including but not limited to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, relationships, separation/divorce, parenting, grief, and intimate partner violence. My work experience has provided me with a strong foundation for working with both children and adults. I help to empower my clients, building upon their already-existing strengths and helping them to heal their wounds.

I feel like my life is out of control. You read this and think, OMG, I thought it was just me! I can't sleep, I'm worried, anxious, stressed, panicky, exhausted. I'm supposed to have it all figured out by now but I struggle nightly, feeling like I have insomnia. Do you have trouble falling to sleep, or wake during the night and can't get back to sleep? Do you feel exhausted, irritable, fuzzy headed and worry about how you are going to get through the day? You are not alone. The worry and lack of sleep can leave you feeling drained, frustrated and longing for relief. You have come to the right place to start breaking this cycle.

Welcoming new clients! Are you struggling with your relationships? Struggling with your self-esteem and confidence? Or are struggling to understand your emotions and reactions? If so, then welcome. I believe that we all have some wounds from our past, and that these experiences can impact how we view ourselves and how we show up in our relationships/life. Although we cannot change our past, I believe that making connections from the past to our present allows us to heal. Healing occurs in the present when we free ourselves from past strategies of protection and relate to ourselves in a more connected and lively way.

Therapy is a deeply personal journey rooted in connection and the stories we tell about ourselves, our relationships, and our experiences. So, what’s your story? I strive to foster an environment where you can explore the many stories that make you unique. To me, that environment should be a space of inclusion, connection, and safety that is warm, non-judgmental, and empathetic. As a therapist, I see great value in offering gentleness, humour, and humbleness, because I believe these qualities ensure that clients have autonomy and that a therapeutic conversation is empowering.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
