When you are struggling with anxiety, depression, or generally difficult emotions, even the smallest of tasks can become overwhelming. This can bring up guilt and shame, feeding back into those depressive or anxious emotions, sometimes feeling like a never ending loop. It can be an incredibly frustrating and isolating experience. Relationships can feel strained, it may be challenging to communicate your experience or to receive support. Whether you feel yourself already at a breaking point or are starting to notice feelings of unease mounting up, therapy can be a place where you no longer have to hold these things alone.

I have experience in helping people with issues around marriage, parenting, reproductive mental health, sexuality issues, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and other life challenges.
Currently Out of Office until September 2024. Challenges are a natural part of life for all of us. Is there one specific problem, or a longer-term issue you would love to leave behind? Perhaps you and your partner need support to repair or strengthen your relationship so it can go the distance? Have you've been putting off dealing with "that thing" that is in the way of you building a life of hope and purpose? It is tough to ask for help when we get stuck but it can also be the way of strength and healing. If you are longing to write a new chapter in your story I am ready to walk with you through the process.

I’m here for the parents who aren't ready to give up hope, and for the teens and young adults who are clinging to life. Whether because of trauma, of neurodivergence (ADHD/ADD) or the need for a more gender-affirming world, life has been rocky. It’s been difficult to connect, sleep has been elusive, panic has been setting in and the future seems sort of bleak. At least that’s how it’s been, at least for right now. So you're looking for a therapist who gets it: your gender identity, your life experience and your inner knowing matter.

If you're tired of repeating the same patterns within your relationships (all relationships count by the way - friendships, families, colleagues, romantic, just to name a few), have a hard time finding relief from anxiety, or find yourself engaging in disordered eating behaviours that impact your days, mood and well-being, I might be a good fit for you.
Hi there! Thanks so much for taking the time to glance at my profile. I like to keep things simple - I am a Registered Psychotherapist who prides herself on my direct approach with clients. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD: a common thread in all of these issues is trauma. Whether it's a high-conflict or abusive relationship, a life-threatening event, unresolved childhood trauma, a painful social situation, or a chaotic world, trauma can have a deep & enduring impact. Many people choose trauma informed therapy to access a rich & comprehensive roadmap for cultivating inner peace, self-confidence, personal efficacy, & a positive outlook on life in the wake of loss, adversity, & tragedy. Research indicates that with concerted effort the vast majority of trauma survivors can experience significant post traumatic growth.

Anxiety Counsellors

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
