Therapy approaches that I apply include: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); and elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I am a registered Clinical Psychologist (Ontario) who specializes in working with children, teens, parents, and families. My approach in working with clients is to provide a supportive and caring relationship within which they can explore and address issues meaningful to them, identify their psychological needs, and expand on their strengths to meet these needs. In my work with children and teens, whatever the issue we are addressing, I encourage the development of skills in self-reflection and effective communication to promote the capacity for positive engagement and healthy relations (e.g., family, peers), which are cornerstones of psychological well-being.

I combine talk therapy (CBT, EFT, DBT, narrative, and solution-focused) with somatic interventions (IFS, EMDR, parts work etc).
You've been thinking about seeing a therapist for a while now, perhaps months or even years. Maybe you thought you were managing well, but then COVID happened. Let's face it, life can feel chaotic and messy at times. This may lead us to feeling overwhelmed, confused and lacking a sense of direction. We may feel burdened with anxiety, worry, fear or anger regarding the wellbeing of ourselves or relationships that we care about. In an effort to be helpful, family or friends may try to give advice, but that may leave us feeling even worse. This can make reaching out for support all the harder.

Built upon the guiding principles of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), my goal is to deeply connect with you, guiding you to explore your attachment wounds and the intricate dance of conflicts that unfold with your partner.
You really can have a life of abundance, peace, happiness and joy! Have you and your partner been experiencing emotional distance from one another? Are you both exhausted from repeatedly falling into the same patterns of conflict? Do you sometimes feel like your partner just doesn't understand your perspective? Perhaps you care for your partner, but no longer feel "in love." At some point, the relationship lost its spark, and now you feel like you're just coexisting as roommates, barely interacting due to busy routines. You might find yourselves more inclined to scroll on your phones rather than engage with each other.

I am trained in solution-focused brief therapy and customize my approach for each individual drawing on CBT, EFT and mindfulness.
“The baby shower did not prepare me for this!” As a new Mom, you might be navigating baby or toddler sleep, boundaries with parents and in-laws, and wondering what the heck happened to that amazing guy you married, who now you can’t stand. Wondering, who am I? What are these scary thoughts I’m having? Is it this hard for other parents? I know what it’s like, and I am here for you. I love working with new parents, and am passionate about perinatal mental health for Moms and Dads. I am also experienced in supporting folks working through anxiety, depression, ambiguous loss, credit card debt, Alzheimer's, and grief.

Emotionally Focused Counsellors

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
