Un-controlled emotions can sabotage areas of our lives. Are you consistently angry? Or have anxiety and you're losing an appetite for life? Angry outburst can leave you embarrassed or potentially harm important relationships. You may feel a sense that life is out of control when you lash out, especially if it's towards people who didn't deserve it. High anxiety on the other hand can lead to insomnia, depression and the inability to cope with every day life. You may be asking, "Can I ever feel normal again?"

Trauma, addiction, and mental health struggles are all too familiar for countless people in Canada. These challenges often feel like overwhelming mountains, blocking the light and making it hard to see the path ahead. Yet, there is no reason for anyone to walk this path alone. My approach to holistic care is neither formulaic nor prescriptive. Rather, it is compassionate and patient. I blend evidence-based therapies, such as CBT, ACT, DBT with somatic techniques and energy medicine to nurture and support one meaningful step at a time.

You’re doing all the ‘right’ things to feel better but no matter what you do you’re still feeling out of sorts. Trauma leaves us feeling broken, damaged, and disconnected from our true selves. You feel discouraged that you might not be able to get back to living your life the way you want to. You’re anxious and people notice your ‘bad mood’ which makes you feel guilty for not ‘being better’ for those around you. You’re here which means you want to try something different. You CAN do this.

I treat anxiety/depression, trauma and grief, life transitions, post-partum mood disorder, divorce/separation, etc.
Taking care of our mental health is more important than ever. Therapy allows you to comfortably share the thoughts, feelings, behaviours and relationship issues that are most troubling in your life. Therapy is a collaborative process, where clients are the experts in their own lives. Together, we will develop an understanding of who you are and the core aspects of what has brought you to therapy. We then will work on building on the strengths you already have and learn further strategies to put you forward in the life you want to lead.

Together, we'll work on understanding and processing your trauma, developing healthy coping strategies, and fostering self-compassion.
Have past experiences left you questioning your worth? Are you struggling with trust in relationships? Do you find yourself caught in cycles of self-doubt, unable to break free? The weight of past experiences can leave you feeling isolated, anxious, and unsure of how to move forward. You may find yourself caught in cycles of negative self-talk, perfectionism, emotional eating, struggling to trust others, or feeling disconnected from your own emotions. Navigating daily life can feel overwhelming, and you might wonder if genuine healing and connection are possible.

Compassionate and effective trauma, anxiety, PTSD, and loss therapy. I work with adults who have survived a trauma and/or loss and want to move forward. My clients have thoughts like, "I should have done something different" or "I am a bad mother/father/daughter/son/sibling." In our work together, you will feel less shame and guilt. Moreover, somewhere between two to six months of treatment, my clients feel more fulfilled and more in-control of their symptoms. They also begin to use more balanced and grounded thoughts and beliefs. I work with trauma from being a first responder, navigating divorce/separation, infertility, and death.

Our speciality is treating anxiety, depression, complex/developmental trauma, and couples/family therapy.
Our most fundamental need is to be seen, heard and accepted as we are. It is no surprise that the strongest determining factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. Positive change happens when we become more like ourselves rather than trying to be something others want us to be. Our team of experienced psychotherapists are here to support individuals, couples and families with their journeys towards greater wholeness and authenticity. We work with the mind, emotions and nervous system to break unhealthy thinking patterns, unburden emotional pain and trauma, build healthy self-esteem, and find deeper meaning in life.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
