Are you seeking a supportive outlet to address childhood issues, navigate traumatic events, manage anger spells, and alleviate feelings of depression or anxiety? If so, I invite you to explore healthier alternatives than the temporary relief found in alcohol, shopping sprees, or excessive consumption of adult content. If you've found yourself preoccupied with non-medical drug use or starting your day with a sweet treat to trigger a rush of dopamine, it may be time to examine these patterns. Discover how to regain control over your thoughts and emotions, and explore the connection between your behaviours and past experiences.

There are many different reasons why you might be seeking out guidance from a therapist. Maybe you’re at a place where you want to develop yourself in a particular area. Maybe you have experienced significant trauma. Or maybe you are going through a difficult transition, whether it was planned or not, and need help navigating it. Whatever might be happening in your life right now, I want you to know that I will help you each step of the way. Nothing is too small or too big to talk about. "Together, we will work on understanding the issue at hand and then we will work together to strive for the change you want to see in your life."

Life can be challenging. Change can be difficult. Knowing which steps to take to get unstuck can be overwhelming. Having someone to lean on for support and guidance could make this process more manageable. That's what I'm here for! Whether you're here today because you're juggling multiple roles, struggling to get out of bed or be around other people, trying to adapt to a new life after a painful loss, dealing with conflict in close relationships, or lacking a general purpose or direction in life, this could be your first step towards living the life you want.

There’s so much you’d like to do, yet it feels like your life has come to a standstill. Inner chaos and pain, or numbness and disconnection seem to take up so much space, making you lose valuable time. You’re exhausted from living in fear, or dealing with the frustration, bitterness, or shame that comes with not being able to move forward. While your experience can lead to isolation as you find it hard to be around anybody, you may also find it difficult to be alone at all, impacting your ability to have healthy relationships. You feel as though pieces of your life have been lost along the way and all you want is to have them back.

The goal of psychotherapy is similar to the goal of life, which is to live the best life possible. But life is full of change and challenges, some of which we embrace and even pursue full heartedly, some of which we are initially shocked by but are able to manage with minimal disruption to our lives. At other times such experiences can be disorienting, leaving us feeling lost, confused, hopeless, and at times unable to move forward. If you are feeling stuck in any facet of your life, psychotherapy can be a valuable means of re-orienting yourself.

Past traumas may linger in the face of life's seasons, hindering your ability to be your true self. You may repeat unhealthy relationship patterns or engage in ways that don't serve you. You may feel disconnected from yourself and your body, and lose your sense of Self in relationships. You may grapple with negative self-talk, stress, anxiety, and burnout, struggling to manage your energy and emotions. Overthinking, overachieving, self-criticism, and self-doubt often prevail as you question your purpose and whether you’re on the right path. I know how tiring, frustrating, and defeating this can feel.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
