Working through a trauma-informed lens, I use both a psychodynamic and humanistic approach with my clients. What I like to call "connecting the dots", I get an in-depth understanding of how your past experiences interrelate to your present ones. Specializing in childhood trauma, complex grief and couples counselling, I work with you and your nervous system to help reframe maladaptive thoughts and behaviors that are no longer serving you. I offer a safe and non-judgmental space to explore and understand your counselling goals.

The mental health professionals at The Dot are trained in many different types of therapy that can help with issues related to trauma, grief, relationship issues (yes we do couples counselling) depression, anxiety and more.
It's not just you, life HAS gotten harder in the last few years. If you've been powering through, staying strong and carrying on, but now you're barely getting by and you're tired of feeling like you're not really living your life, it might be time for outside support. The benefit of therapy is that it's a time where you get to focus on yourself, to look at your life, and to get an outside perspective on how it could be different. You don't have to just endure, with the right support, you can heal from the past, and move forward towards a better future.

Mental health is nested within a network of relationships and our past experience. In therapy, we work together to untangle these networks to build awareness and form new and useful habits or patterns that serve you and your loved ones. I work with youth and adults managing low mood/self-esteem, depression/suicide, anxiety, ADHD, eating and body image concerns, relationship difficulties (family, romantic etc.), grief, and day to day stressors.

Sex and relationships are often at the core of our lives. The ways in which we connect with others - and with ourselves - can have significant impacts on our health and well-being. Communication barriers, sexual dysfunction, disconnection, infidelity, domestic abuse, trauma, and other kinds of psychosocial concerns are common challenges that lead people to seek therapy with me. Many of my clients are wanting to calm anxiety, develop coping skills, increase sexual satisfaction, reconnect with partners, or heal from trauma and abuse.

I counsel from a trauma-informed perspective and use a narrative approach that is solution-focused and strength-based.
It takes courage to initiate counseling and therapy. Working with the mind and our thought processes takes curiosity, patience, and understanding. However, it is so important to not only address our thought processes but to also look at the environments we were in that helped shape the way we see ourselves. Our experiences, relationships, and connections impact our overall well being. I take great pride in you sharing that process with me so that you can achieve learning, healing, growing, and a sense of self-acceptance and love. I too have done this personal work and understand the challenges it brings but also the rewards.

I specialize in trauma, neurodiversity, and relationship, sex, and intimacy issues, but I also work with many other challenges.
Are you feeling exhausted by carrying worries that feel too heavy to face alone? Whether it's the deep ache of loneliness, the frustration of feeling unheard in your relationship, or the negative thoughts and feelings that cloud your everyday life, finding your way out can feel so overwhelming. I truly understand these struggles—they're part of our shared human experience. Therefore, the heart of my work is to create a comfortable, safe space where you can freely express your feelings and work through your pain. I believe that even the things we once thought were immovable or unfixable can heal and transform with the right support.

You're in a lot of pain. It might be a sharp, edgy, "I think there must be something really wrong here" type of distress, or a dull, achy, "Life has got to be better than this" kind of despair. You can point to things around you that aren't as they should be, or you have experienced enough trauma to fill a book, but just knowing this hasn't gotten you or your loved one any peace, let alone joy. It's as if there's something hidden, something below the surface, something you can't quite identify, that's holding onto the pain really that's in the way of feeling fully alive.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
