If you're feeling disconnected, distracted, and detached from your life, it may be time to look at why. Why can't I connect, why am I not able to just "get over" my past, or why does it all feel so meaningless? Maybe there are other questions, like “what am I doing with my life” or “who do I want to be?”. It’s okay to take time that's just for you, to look at your life and see both the big picture and explore the often overlooked details. With the right support, you can feel more present, connected, and in control of your life.

I am a social worker with many years of experience. I believe people are their own knowledge keepers and may need help unpacking their values and truths as often they have been silenced and buried deep within. I want to help you find your voice and speak your truth out loud in a safe environment. From a young age I knew I wanted to work with people and help them in some kind of capacity. I believe a therapeutic relationship is key to helping others. I truly believe that my own personal and professional life experiences have given me a unique opportunity in understanding others.

Being human isn't always a walk in the park. Maybe you’re feeling numb and finding it difficult to connect with others. Maybe your mind is swirling with thoughts and you're feeling overwhelmed. Maybe you’re anxious and having a hard time finding solid ground. Or maybe you're dealing with the impact of past traumas. Whatever you’re experiencing, you don't have to walk it alone. I work with clients 18+ from a body-centred approach using a combination of Gestalt therapy and expressive art. My work is trauma-informed and a safe place for those who identify as non-binary and LGBTQIA+

NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. I want to offer my admiration to you for looking for another option in managing all that is going on in your life right now. I suspect that this was not an easy decision, but it is a decision that speaks about your commitment to yourself and possibly those who are important to you. I would like to offer you a confidential and supportive environment, where you can speak about your struggles without fear of the judgements by family, friends or others who you interact with daily. Together, we can explore new ways of coping, or refresh some skills that have been put aside in the past.

Therapy shouldn't feel like a chore. While it might sometimes be hard to hear what is discussed in therapy, overall you should leave feeling like you've gained something useful or even transformative. Over time, you should feel you are getting stronger, more resilient and have shed layers of fear and anxiety. Of course this process can be overwhelming at times and you might not always progress on the timeframe that you thought you would, but when therapy goes well, you should feel more settled and more clear about your life. You should gain understanding about yourself and others and have a renewed sense of purpose and passion

Bipolar Disorder Counsellors

What is the most successful approach to treating bipolar disorder?

Living with bipolar disorder can be challenging, and a number of therapies have been found effective in providing support to patients as they gain the skills to understand and manage the disorder. Family-focused therapy is often helpful for children and teens (the majority of cases develop before age 19); it aims to minimize mood cycling by improving family communication and reducing conflict. It also helps young people navigate the developmental challenges the disorder can create. Cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) and variants such as Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)help patients manage the thoughts and feelings that influence bipolar mood swings as well as develop specific behavioral strategies to counteract them.

What happens in therapy for bipolar disorder?

Because the patterns of mood switching and its triggers differ for each person and can change over time, mood tracking or monitoring becomes a basic way patients learn about the nature of their condition. One of the most common features of therapy is finding a workable method of mood monitoring, in which patients track their daily activities and rate their moods, then use the findings to adjust routines accordingly. Patients learn ways of handling the many stresses that arise in life so that they do not trigger mood swings.

What kinds of problems does therapy help with?

Like many other mental health disorders, BPD is heavily influenced by stress; therapy provides skills for coping with stressors of all kinds. Therapy is extremely important for helping individuals identify the situations that may trigger mood switching, so that mood swings can be prevented. Therapy may especially target recognition of the early stages of mood change so that they can be managed. In addition, therapy helps patients deal with the significant amount of turbulence the disorder can create in relationships and in work life.

What is the goal of therapy for bipolar disorder?

Therapy helps patients set up their lives to maintain stability so that their mood isn’t constantly threatened by daily events. Perhaps the first task of therapy is to educate people about the nature of the disorder. At the same time, a primary goal of therapy is to enhance adherence to drug treatment. Extended periods of mood stability can prompt patients to discontinue medication, triggering relapse, while the early phases of manic episodes can feel so energizing that patients stop medication, ushering in full-blown mania and the altered self-perception that can lead to destructive behaviors. Another major goal of therapy is to understand one’s mood patterns so as to minimize both the frequency and intensity of mood cycling.
