Are you stuck in a loop of anxiety, negative thinking, emotional turmoil and/or self sabotaging behaviours? Are you tired of suffering, and feeling overwhelmed, and powerless? Do you feel the need for a real solution but have been frustrated by limited or superficial approaches when you have tried therapy before? Through my experience in treating thousands of clients I’ve discovered what is most effective in solving problems and just as importantly, how to help my clients understand themselves and the root of their problem. I empower them with effective tools and insights so they can also coach themselves as they move forward.

We often go through life experiencing challenges that are unique to our own personal relationships, schooling/careers, self-discovery/development, or spiritual/religious journeys. It is with this understanding that mental health issues and life's emotional struggles can be personalized to each and every individual, understood and emphasized from your particular point of view. Anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem and/or vocational challenges can all interconnect and weave together to form a complex, yet complicated picture of your particular struggles.

Do you want to grow in life? I believe that wisdom and creativity emerge through openness, curiosity, and reflection on your authentic experience. Usually when we experience difficulty in life, we do our best to adapt. We might push away our pain or attempt to mentally escape our situation. This may help in the short term, but our deeper unresolved issues often resurface in confusing or distressing experiences. We can find ourselves in patterns of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or confused. These patterns are not just random occurrences but meaningful signals that something needs more attention.

I have been in your shoes! Becoming a psychoanalyst is a long process that takes so much inner work: as a requirement for my psychoanalytic training, I had to go through my personal analysis.
Deep wounds need "Depth" work to heal! In psychoanalytic therapy we look at the immediate issues, but also the deeper issues to make a deeper change since the aim is for you to find yourself, gain insight, and explore the upsetting recurrent patterns that impact your emotional life and mental health. Psychoanalytic therapy is a journey we undertake together! But it is not a walk in the park and I have the experience of it.

Psychoanalytic treatment offers the opportunity to make long-term changes since the focus is not only on managing or coping with the symptoms of a problem, but also addressing the root causes of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
My approach involves careful and considerate listening, a kind of listening that is mostly not found in everyday communication. Listening together to what you say about your own life allows for us to have a very different conversation, creating the space for you to explore often overlooked or unconscious parts of your experience, parts that may be underlying the distress that has brought you to therapy. Psychodynamic therapy and psychoanalysis allow for speaking what was priorly unspeakable, effecting insight, change, and relief from symptoms.

My clinical approach is psychodynamic, also known as psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
I’m here to help you overcome anxiety, to feel empowered, to flourish in your relationships and to facilitate the healing and change you desire in a safe, confidential, creative and compassionate setting. I am a trauma-informed therapist who specializes in self-esteem, anxiety, addiction, loneliness, depression, relationships, dissociation, anger and grief/loss. Change happens when we expand our self-awareness by understanding ourselves. But to understand ourselves, we first need to be understood. That’s why the therapeutic relationship—built on trust, honesty, empathy and vulnerability—lies at the heart of personal change.

My approach is rooted in trauma-informed psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapies that consider how the past continues to show up in the present.
Hi, I'm Christopher (he/him). I'm here to listen. And I'd like to help you know yourself better. Therapy offers a creative, nonjudgemental space to explore challenges, relationships, dreams, and areas of your life where you feel stuck. I work with the whole person—not just their problems—to move toward change.

Not all of our motivations and feelings are conscious to us, and psychoanalytic therapies offer a path for making peace with internal conflicts that might be too hard to face alone.
I seek to create therapeutic spaces that are both supportive and exploratory. Drawing on my training as a therapist and literary scholar, I believe in the value of thinking carefully, deeply, and creatively about the stories we tell (and sometimes don’t tell) about ourselves. By learning to tell their stories, and perhaps learning to tell their stories differently, my clients are able to find balance, take risks, and centre healing in their lives.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
