I work with individuals and couples, where I also consider the impact of trauma and culture in the issues you're looking to be supported with.
Accepting NEW Clients - Are you feeling "stuck" and you're looking for a way to better see the path forward, or away from these feelings? Have you heard of EMDR and you want to learn more about working through trauma and its impacts on your life and how you show up in the world and with others? Is anxiety, stress, or low mood something you want to explore and learn strategies to cope differently? Are you looking for someone who specializes in trauma or couples counselling? Are you a couple looking to work through infidelity, sexuality, or just simply want the skills to better communicate and understand each other?

For over 20 years I have worked in the field of mental health and addictions as a registered psychotherapist. Through many years of practice, I have demonstrated effective treatment of a wide multitude of conditions and mental health disorders. However, I consider myself to be a trauma therapist. To be able to resolve distress in mental health and emotional functioning, I am trained the most effective and evidence-based modalities. I integrate affective neuroscience with traditional psychotherapy to address the neural bases of emotions through a therapeutic approach to modulate cognition and behaviour.

Welcome! I'm a firm believer that therapy doesn't have to feel like a trip to the dentist. I specialize in awkward topics, it's important to me that our conversations feel like you're talking to a trusted friend. I help individuals, relationships (mono & ENM) as well as polycules & whole family units. I offer a compassion focused therapy model, often coupled with CBT strategies & dad jokes to help us work through the tough stuff. As an RN Psychotherapist, I not only know traditional psychotherapy techniques but I have knowledge in anatomy/physiology, medication management and I've taken specific education focused in sex therapy.

Being human can be really hard. In therapy, we can co-create an atmosphere that is safe for you to share and facilitates growth. Areas of exploration may include: tools for nervous system safety, stabilization and recovery. How unmet expectations you have of yourself, of others, or from others may be impacting you. How to effectively work with guilt, grief, trauma and shame. How to manage personal and/or work stress and how to maintain healthy relationships through connection to self and community care. Currently I have a waitlist however, low rates may be available through the student therapist who works under my supervision.

We help people who are struggling with the disconnect between how things are and how things should be. We understand the isolation that comes with feeling misunderstood and we help to cultivate insight and acceptance with a healthy dose of strategy and skills to rebuild one's sense of control, and to move forward feeling lighter and more connected with the world.

I primarily work with adults and see adolescents and couples on a case by case basis.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the immense stress in your life, unsure of how to handle it all? The weight of depression, anxiety, and hopelessness seems to grow heavier as you grapple with the challenges triggered by past traumas and current issues in your work and relationships. It's clear that this burden has become unsustainable, and you are looking for a way to break free from this overwhelming state, seeking relief and healing in the process.

The Couples Clinic is a teaching facility.
Are you afraid of breaking up? Do you find that the two of you can’t communicate, or hear each other anymore? Our goal at The Couples Clinic is to help couples find their way back to each other. Topics such as trust, intimacy, extended family, money and infidelity can cause huge struggles in relationships. Even when couples have been together for years, they can still have difficulty navigating these issues. Anger, mistrust, contempt and resentment can pull the two of you apart and make it that much harder to heal and build the future you both deserve.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
