At different times in our lives, we are handed challenges, and are faced with adversity. In these situations, we may feel like we need some support; someone wise and compassionate who can provide the opportunity to be heard, and the necessary guidance to move forward. You may be dealing with issues of depression, anxiety, problems in a relationship, grief/loss, trauma/post trauma, addiction, parenting, separation/divorce; or maybe you have just lost direction and feel like you need some realignment. Psychotherapy, coaching, or a combination of both offer you the opportunity to explore difficult or confusing terrain, to understand

The world is full of lonely people…In life, we take many paths. Some paths are smooth, while some might be rough and challenging. Sometimes, on a particularly difficult path, we can lose sight of our goals, loved ones, and the connection to our inner selves. On the surface, it may feel like we do not have the strength to get through these hardships. But I believe that we can find it within ourselves to forge new pathways towards happiness. Therapy is empowering! By working through emotions, thoughts, and feelings, you can grow into the person you want to be, and achieve your full potential.

I work from a collaborative, client centred, and trauma informed approach.
It's understandable to feel overwhelmed or shut down when life is hard; situations difficult and relationships confusing. We usually cannot control our outside experiences, at times making it hard to cope. I work with people who want to enhance their ability to respond to life’s challenges with greater ease, confidence, and knowing. I support individuals to overcome feelings of anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, self harm, and trauma. I will gently guide you through a process of discussion and reflection to promote understanding and awareness as you develop skills to foster change.

We can also talk about anxiety, PTSD, nonmonogamy, depression, grief, discrimination, identity issues - whatever you need.
You’re dealing with a lot; feeling guilty and confused. Guilty for not loving more or trying harder. They’re telling you these things - it must be true, right? They were charismatic and charming, showering you with PDA and compliments, but it all changed. You’re embarrassing they say, and now you feel trapped and broken. You’re not alone. It's not your fault. You Google “abusive relationships” and read about narcissistic abuse. That’s your life! You need guidance. I know this because I needed it too. I chased “good enough” trying to “behave well” for my family. After college, I married and divorced a narcissist who always blamed me.

With more than 12 years of experience, my focus is on facilitating healing from trauma, men's mental health, and supporting young adults as they transition to adulthood.
Everyone gets a little stuck sometimes. We experience painful experiences that can be hard to move past. We become overwhelmed by our responsibilities and sometimes burn out. We get in arguments with loved ones, and we make mistakes. We're human. If you're looking to get back on track, you've come to the right place. My goal is to support you in learning to balance the conflicting expectations and responsibilities in your life, and also make time for the things that you enjoy. To support you as you explore your own needs and desires and learn to have compassion for yourself, instead of beating yourself up all of the time.

Drawing from humanistic interventions, I offer psychotherapy that is strengths-based and solution-focused while trauma-informed with influence from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).
Do you struggle with self confidence? Is your physical appearance often on your mind? Do you find that you have a hard time trusting yourself? I help clients face long-standing beliefs about their self-worth, body image, eating and wellness behaviours. In addition to collaborating on improving your maladaptive self-related behaviours, we also may explore certain influences to your beliefs such as your relationships, culture, and other intersections in your identity. Ideally, my client enters therapy to reach self-understanding and compassion through implementing adaptive changes in your behaviour and cognition.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
