Trust, understanding, intimacy, connection, and fun can be restored in a marriage (or any relationship) if both want it.
Almost all of us eventually have to work through something really hard. We need help finding our way to emotional health and personal contentment. I work with individuals and couples to rebuild relationships, understand and negotiate conflict, manage debilitating sadness, guilt, anger, anxiety, and general dis-ease. I can help you discover how you unconsciously sabotage what you say you want, and help you get what you yearn for most deeply. We have profound resources inside of us that sometimes get squished, and in a non-judgmental environment of warmth, openness and skilled inquiry, we can learn how to Live Life Better.

As a Registered Social Worker, my days are dedicated to supporting women like you through the intricacies of affair recovery, career and life transitions, low mood, and more, helping you find your voice and regain control over your life.

Whatever you choose, the effectiveness of therapy relies on the strength of the relationship between you and myself as therapist.
In strengthening our capacity for self-compassion we can begin to better understand the origins of challenging feelings such as guilt, shame, anger, regret and sadness. My approach focuses on the practice of self-compassion as the key pathway to psychological flexibility and meaningful change. Through the self-compassion lens, I will walk alongside to help you identify how behaviours, attitudes and beliefs may be negatively impacting your life. I believe that the therapeutic process can be creative and life giving. When self-compassion and acceptance are present we can truly begin the process of change.

Psychotherapy can help when: a life issue causes heartache, you want to improve yourself in some way, or life has become unbearable as it is. Meaningful progress will come from the relationship we will develop, including feeling understood as a unique individual. Feeling accepted for all that you are - both successes and failures - enables you to look at hard-to-face places about yourself, and discover new perspectives. A stronger sense of yourself will develop, and you will make clearer decisions that are right for your particular life. You will come to see yourself differently, and others will experience you differently.

I truly admire the courage it takes to admit you need support and begin making changes in your relationship.
Relationships often attract us with their promise of heaven, but can quickly end up feeling like hell. Emotional distance, loneliness, escalating fights, affairs, and addictions may leave you wondering what happened to the bright future you once envisioned with your partner. If this sounds like your marriage or relationship, know that you can come back from the brink. Relationship troubles can be confusing and stressful, but couples counselling can help you and your partner heal from past emotional injuries, rebuild a sense of closeness, and kick start communication on gridlocked issues.

Words that could make possible the changes you are seeking for your relationship with yourself, others, and the world.
A client asked me once: Is therapy just TALKING? In a way it is. Just talking ... words, words, words. Sometimes words are meaningless and pointless. They lead to conflicts, misunderstandings, hurt, pain, crises. What could happen when words are meaningful, relevant, clear, aimed at understanding you and the other? What difference would it make when the right words are spoken, and they are heard at the right time? Would they make your wants, needs, wishes and dreams more real and attainable?

We can work together towards building a therapeutic relationship where vulnerability is welcome.
Life these days can be overwhelming. It's okay to ask for help. We do it all the time don't we? When moving a heavy table or starting a new project, we ask those around us to lend a hand. Life can be heavy sometimes and everyone deserves help. Whether you'd like to explore relationships, school, work, or want to process a traumatic event, I'm here to listen. If there's something you've been navigating throughout your life that you've never been able to weather, we can assemble a cradle full of tools that are individually tailored to your needs. I believe everyone has strengths, and we will pull from yours during therapy.

While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
