My clinical services use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness Strategies, Talk Therapy, Expressive Arts and interweaves the Internal Family Systems framework, to help clients cope, find relief and peace.
Taking the step to explore your life and feelings in counselling takes boldness and bravery. Congratulations for taking that first step. Relationships are often central in our lives. The first significant relationship is the one you have with yourself, then with your significant others, and the community. It is through our everyday relationships we can begin to understand others, our communities and ourselves. I work with individuals and offer group programs. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults of all ages in my practice both in person, online and/or on the phone.

I take a trauma-informed and integrative approach to healing, often incorporating mindfulness, emotion focused, EMDR and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills, techniques, and concepts in sessions.
Has trauma left you feeling lost, stuck, on edge, generally scared, or disconnected from others? Are there childhood experiences you'd like to resolve? Do you struggle in relationships and often feel alone, misunderstood and somehow different? Has your experience with a religious group left you feeling bad about who you are and with more fears than answers? Are you struggling with the question, "Who am I"? Does depression or anxiety leave you spinning or struggling to enjoy life? I have experience working in these areas with clients, and it would be my privilege to join you as you work your way through to the other side.

I use techniques from many different modalities, including narrative therapy, emotion focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, existential therapy, and mindfulness, as I also have my own mindfulness practice.
Are you experiencing grief, anxiety, depression, or feelings of low self-esteem? Are you having trouble navigating your way through the loss of a loved one, a challenging relationship, or simply struggling to find meaning in your life? Many of us are knocked backwards by negative events that seem to unearth past hurts and make navigating our present and future more difficult. There are times when we need support and encouragement from outside of ourselves to help us navigate this inner world and push ourselves forward in our lives.

Explorations will go BEYOND talking ‘about’ stuff, and will include: Mindfulness around sensations; Expression through images/art; Role-playing; Dream analysis, +++, all in the service of heightening awareness around the relational stances we take, and also evoke, in those around us.
Angry much? Are you and your partner arguing more than ever? Is someone threatening to leave if you don’t change your angry ways? Perhaps your anger even surprises YOU at times. If any of this sounds familiar, let’s talk! Whether you feel alone in your anger - or worry you’ll end-up alone if you don’t ‘do something’ about it - this can be a pretty painful place to be. If you’ve got the energy and desire to get to know yourself a little better, and have the interest to explore your inner 'landscape' more thoroughly, then I encourage you to book a free consult so we can chat more about what’s happening and what may be possible!

I use a variety of different modalities including EMDR, Emotion Focused, body based therapies as well as Buddhist Psychology/ Mindfulness.
Building connections with ourselves and others is one of the most important components of a fulfilling life. However, negative messages from the world and our past experiences can often make us feel like we are not good enough. This negative self-talk and self-doubt can make it difficult to form meaningful connections and enjoy life the way we want to, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, confused, or stuck.

The three pillars of my work are mindfulness, holistic approach, and the prioritization of relationship.
Most people who come to me are struggling with challenges that fall into one of four main categories: 1) anxiety, and other struggles with emotional regulation, 2) relationship difficulties, with family, friends, stress, work, nature, society, spirituality, and oneself, 3) direction, related to life purpose or career, and 4) depression, and grief-related challenges. I work with adult individuals (16 and up) and couples seeking guidance, support, and tools to help navigate life struggles with more self-awareness and agency. I also offer individual and group clinical supervision to therapists.

Mindfulness is being in the present moment, which is the only moment you have control over.
Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Stop pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a degree in Psychology from McMaster University. I am a certified Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Facilitator. I specialize in mindfulness and meditation to heal with Buddhist wisdom.

I use a range of techniques to support our work together: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address unhelpful thought patterns, mindfulness practices to keep you grounded, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to manage intense emotions.
Do you feel like your emotions shift suddenly without warning? Do you find yourself at odds with your own thoughts and feelings, often engaging in self-sabotage, ending relationships impulsively, or struggling with a constant push and pull in your relationships with yourself and others? It can feel like an emotional rollercoaster—one you wish you could step off, only to find yourself back on the ride before you realize it. Together, we can get to the core of these experiences and uncover the underlying causes. Through our work, we’ll develop tools and skills to help you reshape your relationship with yourself and others.

Teaching mindfulness is a passion of mine and something I love introducing to clients if they have the interest.
Whether you’re new to therapy or continuing on your journey, I’m here to support you on your way to a more fulfilling life. I’ve had a lot of experience finding the gold in challenging circumstances, and it’s an honour to share that possibility with others. I was trained in Gestalt therapy, so my approach involves providing a space that supports expanded awareness and authentic contact. I believe warmth, trust, and curiosity go a long way when connecting with someone.

I’ll be an active guide through the process, tying in communication skills, body-based tools, and mindfulness strategies (if that's your thing!) to heal your nervous system and create change that lasts.
Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and burnt out? Do you find yourself so caught up in the ‘what ifs’ that you struggle to enjoy what is? Perhaps you put on a carefree mask for the outside world, but inside you’re quietly suffering from racing thoughts, feelings of dread, and a harsh inner critic. When fear and self-doubt take over, they can drive you to avoid the things that make life most meaningful, like taking risks, having hard conversations, and building deeper relationships. I'm here to help you overcome these unhelpful patterns to create a life of more connection and fulfillment.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
