I often say that I come to my work honestly. I know first hand how it feels to suffer deeply, not understanding how to make it better, and being surrounded by those who were as baffled by me as they were supportive. I am incredibly passionate and committed to working with individuals who are struggling with self harm, suicidal ideation, anxiety/mood disorders, emotion dysregulation and relationship challenges. Those who are wanting to live a better life and just don't know how to get there!

I believe that effective therapy takes place in an atmosphere of safety, respect, and caring. When a person comes to therapy, a healing process is already underway. As this process is recognized and strengthened, the client is free to move toward wholeness. I use empathic listening and questions to help clarify the presenting problem and set it in the context of the person's life journey with its healthy call for spiritual and psychological growth. Writing, guided visualization, role playing and art may also be used to bring forth inner wisdom and to explore alternative ways to meet challenges.

Sometimes we all feel stuck or like we could benefit from more support. Therapy provides an opportunity to be heard, acknowledge our feelings, and work towards positive changes in our lives. Deciding to reach out for counselling can be an intimidating task, but being understood grounds us in our own truths, bodies and experiences so that we can show up in our lives as the people we truly are. I believe we are most authentic when we can openly and honestly express ourselves in an environment that is both supportive and safe.

The need for connection emerges from our very core. Though we are social beings, when our core is wounded or in pain, we may instinctively attempt to protect ourselves, even from our nearest and dearest companions. Whether we’re going through a particularly challenging time in life or facing our usual day-to-day stressors, counselling can be an important part of a healthy lifestyle. I work with children, youth and adults learning to: respond skillfully to emotional distress; adjust to expected and unexpected life transitions; process grief and loss; and manage parenting demands and expectations.

Have you found yourself wanting help and support, yet others in your life think of you as the “strong” one and don't see your pain? Perhaps you work in a helping profession and don’t know where to turn for your own therapy. Anxiety, depression, or even burn out can lead to feeling lost and lonely. Maybe you have people with personality disorders in your life that make you doubt yourself or make the “easy” things very difficult. Many people are feeling disconnected from their community, themselves and the larger "something more". Creating a safe space where you can be heard and understood is the foundation of my work.

Much of my work is geared towards working with each client to align best with individual needs. I like to be lighthearted and use humor in my practice. I also call myself a Gen Z therapist. My educational background of an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies has profoundly shaped my perspective and provided me with an intersectional feminist lens to work with a diverse group of people.

"A difficult life is not less worth living than a gentle one. Joy is simply easier to carry than sorrow." This quote from poet Andrea Gibson perfectly captures my approach to working with other humans. I am a firm believer that therapists are not experts, but people trained to safely share the burden of carrying sorrow, grief, and emotional wounds. It may seem impossible to find meaning in the context of the experiences you've lived, but together we can breathe and find a way to continue moving through life.

I am a clinical psychologist working primarily with children, adolescents, and their families. If working through life's challenges feels more overwhelming than staying stuck in your current situation, I would like to have the opportunity to help you navigate your way to a life worth living. Often negative thinking patterns and behaviours can influence our sense of self and impact on our family, work and school life. My goal in art psychotherapy is to assist you in discovering your potential while finding your internal voice. A client centered, anti-oppressive approach provides a safe and confidential environment to explore what matters most to you.

I am passionate about helping individuals aged 10-25 who struggle with anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem. Maybe you’re carrying the weight of trauma, struggling with anger, grief, or navigating tricky friendships and family issues, including the impact of the experiences as a foster child. For kids struggling with anger, grief, or tricky friendship & family issues, it can feel as though joy in childhood is lost. Similarly, as a young adult who lacked support as a child and recognize how this could have an impact on your future, now is the time to reach out for support.
