As author of The Great Work: Self-Knowledge and Healing Through the Wheel of the Year which presents the human experience of reclaiming the authentic self from the depths of Shadow and shame, I specialize in codependency, identifying needs, developing emotional fluency, self-empowerment and self-actualization.
Within each of us lies the vision and hope for the life we want to live. Yet, we can feel overwhelmed by inner or outer challenges, fears, negative beliefs, low self-esteem, anxiety or depression. In many years of practice, I have seen the resilience of the human spirit. As a Spiritual Psychotherapist, I work with traditional approaches, as well as those rooted in Transpersonal Psychology, Archetypal Psychology and Shamanism which recognize the power and strength inherent within to facilitate change. My aim is to act as guide as clients address past pain and present circumstances that limit the ability to live a life in full bloom.

Is anxiety getting in the way of living the life you want? Maybe you are trying to work through complex trauma and aren't sure where to start. I work with people looking to heal relationships with themselves, ultimately leading to better relationships with others. Many of my clients self identify as people pleasers or perfectionists, who have a tough time slowing down and putting themselves first. We might have a hard time finding the balance between shutting down our emotions and having them take over. I have a special interest in helping people navigate complicated family dynamics and heal from childhood trauma.

I work with adults who want freedom from negative patterns and who want to get to the root of repetitive reactivity and triggers. They want calm and peace. They want help with healthy boundaries, anxiety, self-worth, depression, life direction, co-dependency, communication, addiction, relationships (with self, the Divine, life partner, ex-partner, children, family, co-workers), emotional regulation, grief, loss/divorce, chronic pain, parenting, spiritual growth and psychedelic integration. Carrying the past makes current life difficult. Helping clients accept the past, learn from it and then let it go is what I love doing best.

Accepting new clients. Do you struggle with challenging relationships that affect how you handle day-to-day life? Do you feel frustrated or exhausted repeating the same patterns over and over again? Are you tired of negative self talk sabotaging your efforts to change? Do you wonder if your connections to your loved ones could be stronger? Now more than ever, women are feeling overwhelmed and 'stuck' trying to create more positive relationships with their loved ones while also taking care of their own needs and desires. I strongly believe that we all have the ability to change the way we connect with others and with ourselves.

If you're looking for unconditional acceptance and emotional safety, you've found it. My approach is client-centered, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed, which means I adjust my methods to suit the client I am working with. I believe human development is ongoing, but that the patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviour we learn in early life can impact us for the rest of our lifetime. The good news is, these patterns can change. I will help you bring awareness to your patterns, learn how to take care of yourself lovingly, and make conscious choices about how to live that help you feel more whole.

I want to meet you where you are and work with you to help you find who you want to be. I like to be lighthearted and use humor in my practice. I also call myself a Gen Z therapist. My educational background of an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies has profoundly shaped my perspective and provided me with an intersectional feminist lens to work with a diverse group of people.

Trauma, depression, and other mental health issues can often cause individuals to become "stuck" leading to feelings of resignation or hopelessness. It can often feel like the individual is at the bottom of a well which keeps getting deeper, with the light out feeling further and further out of reach. It can lead individuals to believe that there is no path forwards, or that any path forward is one devoid of meaning or fulfillment.

You deserve to feel better. I am a Registered Social Worker who is excited about and honoured to provide effective therapy services. In my practice, I see all kinds of humans, who show up struggling with all kinds of human issues. These often include anxiety, sadness, shame, people pleasing, and relationship challenges. I have training in many modalities (ways of doing therapy, like CBT, although not the only way!) and over twelve years experience working in our mental health system. Our work is informed by my experience, knowledge, and certifications, and is tailored to what you need to feel better as soon as possible.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
