I specialize in life transitions, care and placement for older adults, chronic illness, acceptance with new diagnoses, and managing general life stressors.
As a social worker, my goal is to provide support to individuals to overcome a variety of challenges through the use of evidence-based practice and clinical experience. Whether you are experiencing a life transition, recent loss, feeling down, relationship or general concerns, I am here to help. As each individual and their presenting concerns are unique, we will work together to tailor an approach that works best for your needs. While therapy may include serious matters, I believe therapy should also be engaging and enjoyable. My role is to support you to promote meaningful change to feel your best and live the life you envision.

Millennial women may often find themselves navigating a myriad of challenges in their personal and professional lives. Often feeling overwhelmed by societal expectations, juggling multiple roles, and longing to find a sense of balance and fulfillment. There is a desire to reconnect with their authentic selves and reclaim their sense of purpose and aspirations.

If you're looking for someone to support you as you cope with functioning, I’m a warm, straightforward, and trustworthy therapist who certainly doesn’t see herself as the expert of your life (that’s you!). I am here to meet you where you’re at and guide you on your journey, going step-by-step while offering you empathy and validation along the way. Whether you're experiencing high levels of distress, anxiety, isolation, or hopelessness, I hope to create a safe space where we can explore approachable parts of yourself, while acknowledging the difficulties present in your life.

I frequently hear from the people I support, that it feels like no one is really listening. Our existing relationships often don’t allow us to be SEEN and HEARD accurately, in the way that we need to be seen and heard. My goal as a therapist, is to offer a compassionate, non-judgmental presence, where you can feel seen, heard, and valued. It is my belief that through a collaborative counselling relationship we can start to become more connected to ourselves, as well as to those around us.

My goal is to give your family a safe space to work on developing skills and building relationships. I work with children and youth to develop the skills they need to cope with difficult emotions and situations, as well as empower parents to feel capable and improve relationships within the family. I provide a holistic approach to support the whole family and strongly believe that helping parents to understanding and supporting their child's identity is one of the most powerful ways of reducing risk around mental health issues.

In moments of great stress, opportunities for profound change emerge. If you're finding life overwhelmingly difficult, struggling to "get over things," you're not alone. The truth is, navigating life's challenges often requires more than we can muster on our own. As a mental health care professional with over two decades of experience, I've supported countless individuals in understanding that crucial human connections and professional guidance can illuminate the path to healing and self-discovery.

I focused my master’s research on the interceptions of non-nociceptive pain and resilience, so have an interest in working with chronic pain and chronic illness.
Relationship-building and a strong therapeutic alliance come at the core of the work that I do. To me, it is important to create a space that is welcoming, non-judgmental, and relaxed, so that clients can feel open to share. I am able to work with children 7 and above, adolescents, and adult clients. I have over a decade of experience, both in a counselling and teaching capacity, and in my years of schooling I also did a concentration in special education and worked in several positions as a respite worker. I still work a fair bit with intellectual and developmental disabilities in my practice and enjoy this work very much.

My counselling interests include anxiety, addictions, career guidance, chronic illness, depression, sexuality, self-image, grief, loss and bereavement, stress and life transitions, and behavioural / emotional issues due to anger, shame, guilt, low self-esteem, fear, pain, worthlessness and trauma.
I hope that I can empower you to choose me as your therapist. What characteristics does a person hope to stumble upon to begin to bare their soul to a stranger? I know that trust, consistency, humor, curiosity, certainty, empathy, knowledge, professionalism and security are key components that would make it easier for me to open up. I focus on utilizing emotions as clues to investigate underlying patterns that are no longer adaptive. There‘s also the opportunity for those who choose to utilize my unique training as both a registered psychotherapist and naturopathic doctor, to approach mental health through a wholistic approach.

Hi! I am a registered psychotherapist with a background in community health nursing and have worked with many people from different communities in my career. I know from personal experience that relationships and life transitions are not easy - I can help you work through the hard times and deal with challenging relationships. I am a very good listener and work hard to help people learn about themselves and find ways to manage anxiety, stress, depression or just the feeling of being "off". I can also help you figure out patterns in your relationships that are causing anger, sadness, a sense of emptiness, or guilt.

Chronic Illness Counsellors

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
