Currently accepting new clients 18 and over. I find that the most courageous clients I’ve met are often those who don’t feel very courageous at all. The fact that you may be sitting here thinking, “How can I change things?” or “Where do I start?" takes courage... and so much more. It has likely taken sleepless nights, days of feeling out of control, lost hope, depleted motivation, never-ending overthinking, self-criticism, and unbearable pain of living through the unimaginable. Maybe you've already put in countless hours towards creating change to make sense of what has happened to you or to answer questions of where to go next.

I have a Ph.D. in psychology and have been practicing psychotherapy for 20 years. I have worked with homemakers, CEOs, politicians, artists/writers, and others—people seeking help to deal with issues negatively impacting their lives and relationships. I counsel people on a wide range of topics; however, I specialize in adult ADHD. Clients initially come to me feeling alone, confused, and uncertain about how to manage their symptoms. Through compassionate understanding, together, we explore new ways to manage the symptoms. Please note that as a registered psychotherapist, I am not authorized to diagnose or assess ADHD.

Regardless of current situations, emotional struggles, or past experiences, therapy helps us on a path of discovery to identify challenges and co-create solutions. I believe counselling allows us to work together, creating a life with increased happiness, emotional stability and fulfilling relationships.

You're not feeling like yourself. Even though you put on a brave face, you question if anyone truly sees, hears, or understands you. In your most honest moments, you recognize that these feelings have been present for a while. Someone close to you— maybe a friend, family member, or even your partner— has suggested you might need some support. You've searched your symptoms online, yet you still feel uncertain about what you're experiencing. You've even attempted therapy before, but it felt like it barely scratched the surface. You're looking for something deeper, but don't know where to start. You're not alone in this experience.

Hi, I'm Emily! It was apparent to me from a very young age that I wanted to pursue a career in counselling. It wasn’t until I got diagnosed with IBS and Crohn’s that I began directing my career towards helping others navigate similar struggles. Recognizing the complexities of living with a chronic health condition and autoimmune disease, my goal is to work collaboratively with individuals to regain control of their lives using various evidence-based practices that encourage self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-development. Sessions with me also include healthcare system navigation, psychoeducation, and advocacy skill building.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
